    Hi guys,

Just a day ago, my tank faced this problem that the middle brace broke off.

Probably due to weak siliconing (if there's such a term) or it couldn't take the volume of water. May because it is a custom tank as well.

I'm quite worried that the tank would give way one of these days.

Was thinking of a solution as shown in the picture. To make a top frame that holds the outside of the tank (something like a cap).
Also can add in covers to minimise evaporation.

Anybody have any good lobang where to get the frame done?

The purpose of the bracing is to limit the glass from warping due to the water volume. You can empty your tank water and re-glue the center bracing. Even if you make frame, you need to empty the tank to put the frame in place. It probably wont fit it due to the warping.

The best is to change to new tank , new tank probably won't cost much different than making frame

    Hi,

May I ask what is the size of the tank?

From your description I think it is a 3 ft by 1.5 ft.

It is better to re-glue back the bracing. Just buy a aquarium silicone. Glue it. Solve your problem.

    It's 4ft by 1.5 by 1.5.

You can refer to the pic.

If I redo the silicon means I have to take out all my fish and empty my tank. Which I just did a few days ago. I don't want to stress the fishes...

The thing is I can push back the warping beyond straight the other way. And the tank is only set up for a few weeks. I'm not gonna get another tank so fast!

It's a new tank? if so contact the place you bought it from.
If you silicon it yourself it may not be as good when when nothing is there to hold it tightly there while it cures.

Then best try to silicon back if the seller cannot help. Some people (ok most) tend to keep their unused equipment long time before selling.

You could contact the seller to find out where he had gotten the tank made, and then go back to the vendor to have them try to fix out something for you. For a fee of course, but beats you have to DIY and risk everything.

I would usually refrain from getting a 2nd hand tank. Just my 2cents on the issue.

He does not want to empty the tank (stress the fish), so choice is limited

I wouldn't force the tank beyond the warping point. It will only loosen the silicone again. Best choice is to get a new tank, get thicker glass as well. In my view, when a glass is warped, it is stretching and can be considered unsafe. It is not built for the purpose it was created and it has shown you that. You can empty the water to a certain extent and re-silicone it but if the silicone is strong, the pressure will still push on the glass. At the most, the glass may give way but if your loved ones are infront of this glass pane when this happen, you will only have yourself to blame.

Re: Tank Problem, anyone can help?

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions.

After much thought, I felt that it wasn't worth it to buy another tank.
The quotes I'm getting from the contractors are absurd and some are just off the shelf, which cannot be made to fit.

So, I've DIY-ed the top frame myself.

Items all from Daiso, including tools.

    $52 poorer now...

These wood blocks by daiso are pretty neat =) Even this saw i've never used before.

Measuring to get the correct length

The connecting piece (brace?) for shorter blocks

Wood glue to fill up uneven gaps, provide stronger bond between pieces.

    Almost finished product

Don't even have to use all the holes for the brace

    Finished product!

    My painting skill sucks...

Placed 2 old acrylic sheets over to minmise evaporation... You can see the bad silicon-ing done by the previous owner...

    No more warping!

Where the glass brace used to be.

Although many of you guys asked me to silicon back the brace but I still felt that wood and screw are stronger than glass and silicon.
It's already proven by the previous owner...

Bro, don't mind me saying this but the re-silicon job was not done in propper by last owner. If he didn't do a good job, more then likely it would drop out again.

Contractors will rip you off if it's a one-off job you are not wrong.

Daiso have some good stuff, really worth the money. Glad that your able to put things together well.. i spend more then you buying erm crazy stuff there.

One thing worth a word of praise, the paint job is not the best but it's not lousy.

Thanks! I just tried my luck.
The interconnects are also bought from Daiso, not sure if it's stainless steel or what kind of metal but it's pretty thick. About 2 to 3mm.

Daiso really is a crazy place that sells almost everything just like what bro felix_fx2 said.
