The center 2213 will be acting as a sub filter (that's ehiem's way of naming) And flow will be affected.

Most people who do that take out the impeller in the one acting as subfilter.

You can browse for zackzhou threads. That was one of them with alot sub filter.

Hooking up in series will not improve your flow rate. Setting them up separately would be best. The intake for each filter should be at opposite ends of the tank, but the output from both filters should be directed in the same path.

Not to mention they also act as system backup for each other in case of breakdown or stoppage.

Hi bro... i suggest you get a subfilter as it would be better although "it might" take more power to "push" the water out to the next canister. If you want to improve flow rate i'd sugeest you get something bigger like a 2215 and so on.. Again, if you think water not clean enough or flow too strong you can add a subfilter...

Wilson, I'm assuming you are having a 2 feet tank. While it is a plus to have excess equipment, it would be prudent to do some research on the quarry you are after. Shrimps, from the little experience that I have actually do not really like flow, also not really sure if cannister is the best filter here, my 2 cents. If high tech you must, probably best to get the rest of the accessories for your shrimplets.

Hi Stormhawk, is there a reason to hook up output at same location and input at opposite corners? Just wondering, can I instead put output lily at diagonally opposite ends and input at one same corner? I'm thinking of hooking up a 2026 and 2028 on a 4 x 1.5 x 1.5 planted tank in this manner.

The reason is simple. You want proper circulation throughout the tank. Having the inlets at either end ensures that water flow and suction of waste will go via both ends. Directing the water output in 1 direction is to allow the fish to get used to the current flowing from one end. If you have the outputs at either end of the tank, the water current may be confusing for the fish. Your idea is alright as long as the water flows in a single direction. If you have lily pipes at either end the ripple effect will be muddled right at the middle where both currents meet.

if you're planning to use twin 2213, look for eheim subfilter 250. it is the 2213 with no motor.

I'm using the subfilter 250 linked to a 2213 for my 2ft tank.

may i ask is subfilter very cheap? if the costs are similar, I am considering to buy the standard filter and only plug in power when the main filter fails.
