    Hi all,

There are many media in the market, so I have a few questions to ask:

1.What is the best or suitable media in external cannister for planted tanks? Eheim? Bioballs? Lava rocks? CR?

    2. Can lava rocks be used? Will it alter Ph or Gh?

    3. Understand that many people use coral chips to buffer the Ph, but will it rise the Ph to around 7?

    4. What is the correct order in putting the media? 1st-Wool 2nd-sponge 3rd-CR etc.

    Thanks!

    1. For planted tank alone (no fauna), you dont even need filter, power head or wavemaker will do just to provide flow.
    2. Yes you can use, you can use anything with lots of whole to increase surface area
    3. No idea never use. Plant normally prefer slight acidic water.
    4. no right or wrong, its up to you. Normally will put filter wool after water in, follow by other media. The purpose for the wool to trap all the dirt and dead leaf.
