    Re: First attempt at iwangumi

    Iwagumi you mean.

What plants are those? Any closer or more pictures?

Well done on first try. I am not sure what plants you just planted but it seems its all over. Can you provide more details? Tank dimension, rocks used, plant/s used, substrate used, CO2 injection or not etc.

Just my 1 cent. My personal feeling is that the tank should have a carpet plant like glosso or hc. More or less the idea is to keep one to three types of plants for iwagumi. What could be done is foreground plants and then mid plants placed around the rocks? The concept of it is simplicity and rocks placed looks natural like in nature. I'm not nuts about golden ratio and stuffs. As long as it's pleasing to me and my family and it looks as natural as possible. Sounds simple but not exactly. Anyway, I'm not an expert either; just my thoughts.

Cheers and don't stop perfecting your hobby/art.

Glosso and HC are 2 of the most popular choices for iwagumi, as mentioned, along with hairgrass, brazilian dwarf sword etc. Another plant worth trying are the many varieties of mosses. My personal opinion is that they are understated in such layouts and can equally create a beautiful iwagumi scape.
