    Hi

I've read around the internet but i cant come to any conclusion

    my tank is GEX-Lsize (approx. 45cm x 20cm x 20cm?)
Low tech tank with just windelov ferns and java moss
(might think about adding US fissiden)

i have 2 sets of lighting
    1) aquazonic 60cm 55W PL
    2) dymax 60cm 2 x T5 (14w)

i've read and been told T5 will be ideal for planted tanks
i've also read about watts per gallon and penetration of the different lights
but it seems very obvious that the PL light is much brighter than the T5

Granted the T5 i have is probably low output??
a high output T5 might solve the problem?

Another thing i read about is the color spectrum for photosynthesis.
Is T5 or PL spectrum more ideal?

So with the 2 lights i have now, which is more ideal for encouraging plant growth?

    Please advise!!

    Thanks!

You have the same tank as mine, and judging by the plants that you are currently keeping, my recommendation would be the 14w x 2 dymax, as the 55w PL light is too bright for the tank. Moreover, the tank is only 20cm in height.

The plants on your list are able to thrive at low light. Injecting co2 will make them grow faster.

Pl is sufficient depending grow speed that you want.

Would led lighting make a better choice?

    Re: T5 or PL ???

Your tank is only 20cm depth. So any normal PL or T5 will be ok for your setup, with low maintenence low tech requirements. Even if you add CO2 in future, which may not be necessary, you can still stick to these type of lights.

For your setup, I would get an Aquazonic T5 light (1.5 ft or 2 ft) for it's budget friendliness.

Most of the LFS sell 12000k lights or you can specifically ask for tubes in the 8900K-6500K range, although it is not necessary. ( try the marketplace in this forum for cheaper options)

LED lights will be very cool in terms of temperature and look!
But these will costs much more. Again, nice to have but not necessary.

    Enjoy your hobby! Cheers!
