Good morning everyone, am writing this post in the hope of some good avice from the brothers here, do any of you guys have the problem of shrimp dying a few like 1 per day or 3-4 per week even when the water parameters seems correct? usually for me i will do a water change per week , about 10 to 15 percent of aged water with shitzen powder added to it and adjusting the ph of the water before i add to the tank, the pail of water will be bubbled 1 week before i add it to the tank, as advise by a bro hewre which is of logic, but somehow, my shrimps seems not to be very active and stay on ground usually and then it will die off, so am at a lost, is it ok just to top off every 2 weeks instead of changing water every week? feel like giving up. my water parameters are below. do let me know if you guys have any inspiration on water changes or anything can be done to reduce shrimp death, i have CRS berried and the shrimplets surviving though

    PH: 6.7
    KH:1 to 2
    GH: 5
    temp: 24
    TDS:205
    ammonia and nitrite:0
nitrate: will be getting test kit to get the reading

    Soil type?
Gh you might want to adjust down abit.
You're using tapwater as aged water? Have you try using distill to change and monitor?
    Filteration?

    Hi Avex,

yes am using tapwater as age water but added shitzen powder and let it bubble for a week before doing my water changes every weekend, filtration is eheim canister filter, never use distill water to change, what you mean is to use distilled water and top off?, my filter inlet with full of short green hair algae, sign of high nitrate?

To reduce nitrate, you may add a few floating plants.

bro feeding your shrimp everyday won't kill them but will increase the population of planaria if your happen to have them. Anyway do monitor.

    Hi Bro

I am not a pro .. but i face similar problem like yours .. just that i never change water .. just top up with distilled water ... the parameter is all good .. and still crs will die off .. sometime 2 week one .. sometime one day die 2 .. sometime a whole nothing happen .. I think sometime is due to the crs itself .. like where you get it .. are they used to your water .. I actually post before something like lousy batch of crs .. because it is weird that my crs keep berried and shrimplets seem to be growing healthy but such things still happen .. and for my case, those that died are from the same batch i bought .. as they came in smaller size as compare to another batch that i bought which were already 1.2 cm ..

I think you should just chill, dont over feed, and dont do anything .. So far mine has no death ..

Re: Water Changes In Shrimp Tank

    Hi Chansl,

thanks and glad you know what i mean, cos i tested everything and it seems ok, i need to test for nitrate and see how it goes, yes they just die for no reason even when my tank is stable, i have removed charcoal with mosses, right now just java mosses with drift wood, but in filter intake is full with green short hairgrass, i suspect this is due to high nitrate? too bad i left my nitrate test kit in the office, can only test this coming monday, but as i said for the next few days i will not feed the CRS any food in case, today they see them grazing for food, and some moulting shells, currently 1 bds and 1 crs berried, and 2 shrimplets still surviving, so is ind of weird, cos when your shrimps are dying, but the 2 shrimplets and the berried crs bds is still healthy, then to me its contradicting, i was thinking when i change water, i will slowly change it, something like the dripping method, poking small hole in the container and let it flow into the tank, my tank lighting i reduce to 4 hrs, on it at 6 pm and off at 11 pm to reduce the amount of lighting to my 2 feet tank, the lighting wattage is 24 watt 10 k

Re: Water Changes In Shrimp Tank

anyway right now am thinking just not to bother the tank anymore, leave it as it is, no feeding, only top off water 2 weeks one time slowly and no fiddling and see how, if all the shrimps die then i will check my water parameters, get 1 set of shrimps and just monitor, as you say it could be batch problems, funny thing is that younger shrimps die more then those which is bigger and older.

Re: Water Changes In Shrimp Tank

Yes i understand how you feel .. I think as long as you check everything .. if they really die .. maybe is their health issue or how they were breed .. dont get too upset and give up .. just slowly tune it right ... we are still learning .. cheers

Re: Water Changes In Shrimp Tank

hmm, the past 2 days no shrimp death, thanks god, but today this very morning i was looking into my tank and found that one of my pregnant fire yellow shrimps moulted, together with her eggs in the moulted shell, very sad, but the shrimp is alive, which is more important, anyone have such similiar incident?
