Certain parts of Eheim equipment can be interchanged to fit other equipment.
Had an old leaky Eheim 2028 lying around and was thinking of ditching it but I noticed that the impeller looked in pretty good shape so I kept it.
While cleaning my new Eheim 2073 I noticed that this impeller was the same size but with only 3 blades vs the 2028 which has 6. So I tried a swop, the 2028 impeller fits perfectly in the 2073.
After running the filter, I noticed that the flow rate is greatly improved with the 6 blade impeller even though both of them are rated at the same flow rate!
Go figure!

interesting
The same also apply to other parts not just filter.
Most important is that the replacement can do the replacement role.
Of course it has bad points. Like for this case of impeller having the flowrate affected.

Erm, why bad Felix? The flowrate was improved by the change.
On the other hand, could the improvement have come from the cleaning of the canister?
The 6 bladed impeller would likely produce a better head pressure and potentially improve flowrate by overcoming the media's resistance better.
Some folks don't want too fast flowrate.
And try to reduce it.

In the same vein of discussion, has anybody tried using Tunze impellers in Eheim canister filters? Tunze impellers have lesser blades than Eheim's ones, but Tunze's blades are more similar to the propellers of seacrafts.
