    Hi Guys,

My tetra is being killed slowly by the white spot disease . I'm currently using para guard (seachem) in the water at the recommended dosage for 120lt water, but to no avail.
I don't see the itch getting any better and yesterday one of the green neon just died.

I am tempted to try other product in the market but most of them contain copper which I believe will be deadly to the shrimp.

Can anybody offer an advice on how can I deal with this out break ?

Tons of thanks on behalf of the Green tetras

Take the infected fish out. Soak in salt bath for 1 to 2 hours a day. Add some aquarium salt into your existing tank. Also change water more often. Maybe 10-20% every day until healed. Safest solution

Why dont you separate the tetra and shrimp? Put them back together when the tetra healed.

I'm no expert or even a beginner on shrimp so I have no idea what to do with yours. Possibly, seperate them from the tetra.

The tank you have now is infested with the parasite. I use Sera Costapur (Saw Shadow mentioning it in another tread - do search it, it will help) What I did was smaller doses instead of what was recommended.

Recommended: 22 drops on first and third day.
My observation, 2nd day no fish had ichs. 1 week passed. I still dose. (wanted to be sure the ichs are really gone) - No secrets, during this two weeks, 4 out of the 50 I had died. Before medication 6 died. It was 1-2 deaths per day.

Anyway, by the second week; maybe by this stage you add the carbon bag into your filter to absorb the medication left in the tank. In next 24hours or so, add back the shrimp. Again I must sincerely apologise. This is just my opinion and should not be followed unless justified. This is what I will do if it was mine. So please wait for further advice from the experts.

There is another advice I notice is to bring your temperature up to 29-30D. I don't think this is hard seeing that it's mid of the year. This speeds up the ich cycle. They drop off from the host. (don't know its scientific name), it releases hundreds of tomtits. This are free swimming and this is what you aim to kill off. Do seek further advice.

    Cheers

I separate out one of the infected fish and give it salt treatment but it died :-(. Maybe it was too late.
Now I don't have extra tank and catching the fish is not easy and seems like to stress them more which is bad ?

Now I remove my canister filter and replace it with the old hof. Will do water change tomorrow and add more seachem para guard. I tried sera Product but a few drops and I can see the colour of the water changed to green cloud so I stop. Going to stick with hof (with carbon removed) and para guard and see how it goes. I hope I can salvage some of them (finger crossed)

Thanks for all the helpful advice guys really appreciate it.

    Thanks

Good luck. Actually don't have to take the fish out. The parasite is in the water. So it won't do any good if you quarantine the fish in another tank. You have to treat the whole tank. My concern was the shrimp as I don't have any experience, I couldn't say what might happened if you use Costapur on them. Anyway, once you've decided on a method then stick to it. Once again good luck.

Re: HELP : itch (white spot) treatment for Tetra in tank with Yamato shrimp

thanks bro, lost 10 tetras so far and 5 more to go .. so sad. It doesn't seems para guard do any good or maybe I notice it too late and it has already weaken the fish considerably.
The rest of the fish are safe, and shrimp are ok (yamato and cherry).
don't know what else to do and don't want to try stronger medication as the molly has just given birth to babies 3 days back...what a headache
