Might be cyclops and not seed shrimps...
Happy shrimping...
I just set up a new shrimp tank today. It's been running for about 12 hours. And i've noticed some super minute seed shrimps already! Im not 100% that they are seed shrimps but they sure look like it.
So some details. My tank has only 1 bottle of Mosura Old Sea Mud and 1.5 packs of Benibachi Soil (note, this is different from the Benibachi Crimson Soil). No plants, nothing added. Water is brand new from the tap!
Although I'm using my old external canister, I highly doubt that the seed shrimps are from my previous tank. The reason is that in my old tank, the seed shrimps are ALOT bigger. These new seed shrimps that I see are definitely babies or something like that. Is this even possible? Could the seed shrimps have come from the soil?
Has anyone has had similar experiences?

If you brought anything over from your old tank anything is possible including planaria, hydra, wiggling tubifex etc... You just brought canister over? Plants?
the canister it self can be host to alot of pests.
i myself have seen a group of shrimps living inside the canister before.

You used unwashed canister. The accused lived there until you migrated them to the new home.

I also doubt that the culprit is your newly acquired soil. If you find the seed shrimp in your tank unpleasant, like me, put your name on the reservation list for the catch pen by gUSH.
Hey Fishy!!! Your So Fine; Your So Fine; You Blow My Mind
Ongoing Food Cultures: Vinegar Eels; Grindal Worms; Microworms; and hopefully more
Cannot be soil should be import by other places maybe plants or your canister filter any way I find seed shrimps ok as they eat my excess powder food
But to some people it is an eyesore
LOLS in a way yes because their my tank from plants already so oh well
The seed shrimps are harmless, but once your tank matures such creatures will appear. It's a good sign to show your tank is good. If you dislike seeing them, just like me I introduce the Indostomus paradoxus (Burmese pipe fish) from GC to control the population. The pipe fish is quite harmless to shrimps. They feed on very tiny seed shrimps, cyclops or worms.
I am one of them which do not like seed shrimps because a have a boom of seed shrimp out of a sudden. Untill now a try all method to clear it but they reproduce quite fast.
Have been sucking them up every water change almost 1 month there is stil a lot of it inside my tank.
I suspect that I have too much seed shrimp and it put some challenges to my CRS. Once I don't feed my CRS for like two to three days my CRS will be stress out, liveless and it seem that there is not much food in my 2FT tank. I put in ketapang leave as well.
Once I feed my CRS they will be like craze rushing for the food.
Thanks zenith introduce this pipe fish will try that.
Enjoying every mins of the process. Happy Shrimping.
I think i saw the similar thingy inside my tank. And the old things that i've brought over to my new tank is my hornworts, Arubia on nana etc.
I thought Otto or Yamato would help me clear them... well, guess i would go GC and buy the fish that bro Zenith82 mentioned.
I have no idea what cyclops is! Shall do a search. But the funny thing is that the only seed shrimps in my new tanks are MINISCULE compared to my current tank. And yeah, I did open up my canister and found quite a few shrimplets, so I scooped them up, and I didnt see any seed shrimps, of course I could have missed them. This is rather saddening as I hate these creatures. It's really an eyesore. Shall buy something to eat it up before I introduce anything else into my tank.
I'm just really really puzzled. So it 100% can't come from my soil (as they were brand new)? Just to confirm that they cant "hibernate in dry soil" or have eggs in them? If this is the case then 100% from my canister as nothing else was brought over.
errr
seed shrimp look like this
copepods look like this

Their mouths are quite small. I don't think they will aim for your shrimplets if there is ample hiding places.
Fish.. Simply Irresistable
Back to Killies... slowly.
I can't gurantee they will not eat them. But so far the pipefish is very shy and non aggressive.
They won't go haress your shrimps. As bro stormhawk mention, they have very small mouth.
Biggest can only grow about 3cm. I have no problem keeping them with my shrimps. I would recommend as they did a good job controlling the seed shrimps. If you don't trust the fish, get the gush catch pen. Also another good alternative, but you need to keep taking it out to remove the catches and replace the bait. I used to use it till i find it troublesome, then came the pipefish which solved my problems.
Oh of course to effectively control the seed shrimps population, you need about 5~10pcs if your tank is 2ft. As its quite small I don't think it have a very big appetite to eat alot, so you need more fish to control if you have a huge circus troops of seed shrimps.
