Sigh, my blue one molted but it has since lost its 2 pincers or claws. For fear that it might die, I took the orange one and put in isolation. Will the blue pincers grow back? Any thing I should feed it to help him regain it health?

the tank was actually an old tank i found abandoned under a HDB block when i was doing my renovation. it was in decent condition so i brought it back and built it into my feature wall. had no budget to custom-make a new tank. T_T
the crays are white actually but everything under the leaves appear green coz the LED floodlight is just above them. apparently that's their favourite mating spot.

I see. That's really a very nice feature wall/tank. I think I will spend my time looking at it instead of the TV.
wow.. that leaves/floodlight effect on the cray is really cool.
if the floodlight is those disco light, I wonder if the cray will reflect the same colour.
if it also reflects the disco light, probably it will become a dancing floor instead of mating spot.![]()

kermit13sg - don't worry... the crays can regenerate their appendages (feelers, pincers, legs, swimmerettes, etc) in 1 or 2 moults, but they must not be stressed or disturbed during the moulting process or else regeneration will be even slower. meanwhile i think u may have to separate the 2 permanently as from your pictures the blue one looks like it's constantly under assault. no special care needed just ensure that the water is kept relatively clean.
14litre - thanks! i do spend lots of time observing my tank especially when new shrimplets seem to be popping up every other day. think my male cray started misbehaving after watching too much 'prawno'. hahaha

if you can, u may want to partition your tank into 2 for your 2 crays. unfortunately they are excellent climbers so i would recommend either smooth glass or mesh but with an overhead cover for one of the 2 halves at least. an easier way to do it is to get a cheap breeder tank and fit it inside your tank. just suggesting.

ah... that seems like a problem that's hard to solve... maybe you can look at it in another way.
you have too many crayfish? =P
anyway think we've strayed quite far from the TS' original post.
Actually, didn't stray too much from my original post.
My tank is also too small for two.
That's why the girl ate the boy after he molted.
As promised, here is a picture of her second molt, where the whole shell came out perfectly intact.

As for my case, it was the guy that ate up the gal. I got another new guy and when the culprit started to molt, this time, the new guy ate up the culprit. It is crayfish eating anotehr crayfish.
I got a three feet tank and I find that it is not the space but the nature of the crayfish that they are territorial. No matter how many hiding places I created, there is a chance for them to unearth the molted crayfish and have a sumptous meal.

actually, i'm beginning to suspect the problem is with gender. my 3 female crays were once happily roaming the full extent of my tank, climbing the plants and having their own private space.
ever since i added the male, the 3 females have been cramped up on the top of my driftwood huddling together like refugees as the male has now effectively dominated the entire 4ft tank and now even invading the driftwood. I've caught the females climbing up the pipes and airhose trying to escape, which was hardly the case previously.
I suspect that males are too dominating and will cause problems. no issues when my tank community was all female.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your experience, based on my observations of the white crayfish I have bought. 2 males and 1 female. The domineering one will dominate the whole of the fish tank while those refugees will either hang onto the plant or the diftwood. The question is: How to resolve this issue despite providing hideouts for them?
my orange one molted in the tau huay tub!!!

wow congrats, kermit. is the blue one doing well as well?
think i'll have to quarantine my male cray soon before something drastic happens to my 3 females... or if they decide to kill off the male. sigh...

Hi, am new in this forum and i glad to find bros and sis having the same hobby, I have been keeping clarkii for a few months already and still have loads of things to learn from the veterans here. to begin with, I will share a pic of my 2 ft X 2 ft X 2ft tank housing 4 clarkiis,
1 white
1 red
1 blur
1 pink or orange
so far they are getting along well with each other with each having their own indivual space.
feel free to comment and give your advice
