hi guys, thinking to start a 2x1x1 planted tank in office.
    planning the following:

    substrate : ada amazonia soil

    Lighting : Aquazonic T5 high output light set 2 x 24W

    Plants :
Elatine Triandra - can anyone advise where to buy this?
Narrow leave java fern - can anyone advise where to buy this?
    Spikey moss
    Tenellus

no plan for filtration & co2.
    water temp 21 deg.

is this do-able? what are the blind spots to look out for?

    Thanks.

Hmm, I strongly recommend you set up a filtration. Else, it might be hard to cycle the tank properly, especially if you planning on using ada soil.. for the elatine triandra/Narrow java fern you can try scouting for some here in the buy section

Probably filtration for the initial period, or at least till the tank stabilises.

guess no filtration is do-able, just takes longer to stabilize.
no fish as temp is too low. shrimps may suvive after water stabilizes. (maybe after 2~3 mths).

    thanks diazman & mincedmeat!

What's with the wire meshes in the background? What soil are you using in the 1 footer?

    Daryl plastic mesh?
Your not alone, I used before too & have a huge bundle left.

Your office aircon system is 24/7? 21d is very good if you keep moss tank. They will grow nicely & their much lower requirement too.

For planted tank, if you are not planning for filter, you need something for the flow. Either wave maker or power head.

Will you be adding excel or other carbon suplement?

Just a suggestion - why not add a small HOF (GEX Slim M size) for some water flow?

Moss wall or subawersttang wall will be nice, especially in air con environment.

hi benji, diazman, shadow, felix, mincedmeat & all, thanks for your help & advice.

today measure with digital probe, is at 22 deg. yes it's almost constant 24/7, and on weekends as well, as the manufacturing operation runs 24/7.
cannot have filter/powerhead as it's considered a fire hazard in my company (EHS compliant thingie).

yes, am using excel as carbon supplement.

1 footer is using ada amazon soil. will also be using the same for 2 footer (left over from friend).

what's a subawersttang wall? is it something like the cork bark i read in forum?

the plastic mesh is 2 pieces, sandwiching some moss, hold together by some cable ties (kind of old school way).

saw 1 person started with cork bark & he inserted some spikey moss, looks nice.

then later he removed it in later postings.

got heard people say cork bark will "disintegrate & float to surface" over time, is this true?

besides excel for carbon, i also use off-the-shelf liquid fertilizer, blackwater extract, and Cycle for bacteria, and old sea mud, and equilibrium for gh.

what's lacking is kh as i'm not dosing & monitoring for this 1 footer.

does equilibrium help to raise kh as well?
