Besides longer tube life, will a true European T5 eBallast increase the lumens level?

A true T5 EU ballast is almost double the price of the locally made Elbiru Eballast.

Lastly, according to http://osram.com/pdf/service_corner/farb_lumenkarte.pdf, there is not much diff in lumens level between a 39W T5HO and a 36W PL.

Guess the reflectors play a huge row in overall performance.

IMO, It is down to the form factor... the space you have... the looks you want.

Think of it as the "density" : i.e. lumens per physical volume of the tube. If you compare one piece of 55W PL to one piece of 54W T5 the PL has higher lumen. But I believe you can pack two T5s into the space of one PL. Hence you able to get a higher lumen (double the density) within teh same mounting space.
It may not be the efficiency question. Same principle when people migrate from the good-old T8 to the PL.

Flourescent technology is pretty much the same efficiency per unit (lumen/W) not much breakthru. It is all about form factor and how many tubes you can pack into the same space.

Besides a/c trunking, has anyone tried using Aluminium Rectangular hollow section bought from hardware shop and send it for powder coating or PVF2 coating? I am wondering how much it will cost.

Sounds like a good idea ! Safer and better heat dissipation than plastic a/c trunking.
May be you don't even need to powder coat it. Just use as it is. Question is how to make the end cap to conceal the two ends.

well .. think most of you are right abt the ballest and tube

i got my dymax T5 4ft in april and within 2 weeks, i have to send it back to replace/repair the eballest ... no idea what tube they are using .. will change them too when i hv extra $$

they are using a china made eballest and printed 58W when i remove the printed paper that paste over the orignial printing.

guess i'm just paying for the alum casing ... will change to other eballest when warrantly is over ....

Just checked my 2ft D&D set. seems like epoxy is used but not very sure. I wonder whether epoxy can be used.
