It's been 2 days since I started a Triops kit. However, no hatching yet.
Looking for advice from some experienced Triops owners.

From what I read, they are supposed to start hatching soon if they actually hatched.

I used to keep triops many years back. are you using distilled water? it seems like they can only hatch in distilled water.

also, i dont think you'll be able to spot them in 2 days. I only managed to spot mine after about 4-5 days. and they'll cannibalise each other until theres only 1 or 2 left.

I know they don't hatch in hard water full of minerals, but some sources online seem to mention bottled spring water or mineral water, so I guessed there is a threshold that they could tolerate for hatching.
I used filtered tap water(removed chlorine and other harmful substances and made the water alkaline) in the given tray from the kit.
But I could see the 6 eggs floating (I guess it's eggs, white round specs. the only thing I saw that could float anyway from the container, but they don't sink like what online articles said so that they will sink after some time when they have soaked up water to fill the air spaces in the shell that made them float.)

I moved 1 egg to one container with hornwort and seed shrimps (had treated tap water then... topped up once with filtered tap water), the system had been neglected for a long time, the hornwort and seed shrimp seem to sustain themselves.
Moved 1 egg into another container with distilled water which I had tried to use for plant propagation and that has also been left for ages until algae has grown.

If nothing happens after a week I'll probably fish out the eggs and try with clean distilled water for one.
Might also order a proper packet of 50 Triops eggs to start over with clean distilled water too.

So far I only had success when using watsons distilled water (light green cap). my friend tried ice mountain mineral water and they didn't hatch.

you bought the UAN triops, Triassic triops, or bought online?

I bought UAN triops from Pet Lovers @ SGD10.
I found a website that sells 50 triops eggs and food kit, free delivery for just under SGD10.

Unless someone else in this forum wants eggs only, 100capsules(50eggs each) for a total of 99USD. Good for Mass Order.

you think they starved to death? did you feed? I don't see much bits of food in the initial sand, but it did smell like seaweed and had tiny green specs. That is why I moved one egg to a container with seed shrimps and another with algae.
or was the topping up of water too sudden that killed the triops?

I suppose its the water top up. They are crustaceans after all so sensitive to water conditions

You should only use distilled water for topping up or water change. Treat them as you would with CRS etc.

Another question, did you guys actually use a lamp to hatch? I placed mine near the window for natural sunlight.

Nope i didnt use lamp. I used distilled water for top up leh.. But apparently the uan triops instructions require quite a large amt of top up.. Like >50%. read somewhere that should top up less for higher survival rate
