    Hi

The MH light seem very compact and classy.

    But i have two questions.

    1) If i am not mistaken from what i read from other thread, one such MH light is 100w.
Hence for 4ft tank, you will need two of such.
But for 3ft tank, one will not be enough but two will be too much.
Is there a higher wattage one?

    2) Isn't the distance between the light and the tank surface a little too short. It will heat up the tank pretty fast especially if you do not have a chiller. Is that so?

    Thks.

    Hi,

For planted , I think you will need 3 of them for a 4ft tank(My 4ft is 90 gal).... due to the low wattage (100w) ... for higher lights requirement plants.... I can't seem to find specs on the quality of the bulbs on adec website, which I believe is low with poor lumens output.

For 3 ft , I believe 2 of the clip-on MH is good since 3ft is about 50 gallon. This makes 200 W/ 50 gal = 4 W/gal. 1 clip-on is about 2 W/gal, also good for normal plants although the light coverage/dispersion might not be good.

Next if it's 100Watts.... Harder to find replacement bulbs. I believe if you want to choose to use other brands, you will have a hard time. Standards usually found is 150,175,250 and 400 W..... Think you got to think to Dymax brand of metal halides bulbs...

1 feet+ above the water surface is okay for such lighting as it is openly ventilated, anyway it's only 100 Watts. If you worry much, add a fan blowing across the surface. Even a closed hooded DIY MH is about 1 feet above the surface but with fans blowing across the bulbs.
