    Hi all,

I just found out that my hypans spawned this afternoon. One egg got kicked out of the cave and the pair is still trapping. the egg is completely outside the cave now.

    I have a few questions.

    1. Do I leave the egg alone or "save it" by placing it in a breeder box? or do i push it back into the cave?

    2. I have cardinal tetras and shrimps in that tank. will the eggs be safe from them?

    3. when is it safe to check for more eggs in the cave since the pair are still trapping?

    4. since the pair is still trapping, does it mean that they are still spawning? or is spawning over?

thanks! any help would be greatly appreciated

    update

I have lost 1 fry to planaria. the planaria attacked the yolk sac of the fry while I was on my way to buy a breeder trap. After reaching home, the yolk sac was covered with planaria and I had to watch the poor fry die.

I'm only left with 3 fry after emptying the pleco cave

IMO, if wanted to start a breeding program, try not to mix it with other fishes. This will prevent other fishes from eating up the eggs of your pleco. Once the spawning take place can expect to have regular spawn. From the pict of your fries, it seems to me that they are about 1/2 days old fries. So meaning the spawning probably have taken place a week ago which you did not notice.

I have 2 healthy fry and 1 with a deformed/bent tail. I believe they are trapping again.

How do I get rid of planaria without affecting the spawning? I read that planaria will go for pleco eggs

Yes, you removed the eggs too early bro Don.
Try to refrain yourself from collecting eggs, haha...

I have not seen planaria eatiing pleco eggs but if you can, try to get rid of them from your tank when the plecos are not on breeding mood.

Re: Hypancistrus L333 spawned! need advice

all but one of the eggs fungused... not sure why, even though 4 days have passed, their development still looks like day 3 eggs. Maybe its my water temps, it is constantly at 25 degrees.

Anyway, I have been searching for no planaria, but seems like c328 and polyart dont carry it..
