    Based on the upside down image, they are probably some young water lilies or a possible swordplant. This should not be a floating plant. Can you take a clearer picture and perhaps a close up?

    More accurate is one that the roots mostly got bitten off or rotted off.

    I've not seen frogbits in such a bad shape before...the platies must be feasting on the roots, in turn causing the plant to suffer from nutrient deficiencies.

    Yes!! That was what i wanted to ask too! They rotted quite horribly in my cichlid tank, but doing well in my shrimp tank...

    But i thought frogbits are those tiny ones? Or are those duckweeds?

    Haha. Small small one is called duckweed minor. A pest to many.

    I believe the small ones you see are duckweeds, if not might also be salvinia natans or its family.
    Need something to scratch that itchy hand of mine.
