Hi, I have recently cleaned the tubing of my eheim 2213 after around 6 months of uninterrupted running.

I now can't get the filter to prime. I have followed loads of posts on different priming methods and have had more mouthfuls of water than I care to admit.

When the power is off and the hose is below tank level, it flows fine. However, as soon as I switch the power on, the flow turns to a trickle.

I have replaced the shaft and the impeller and still have the same issue.

I tried it with the top off the canister and opened the taps, the water flows really quickly. When switched on, again the flow really slows, is this normal?

The impeller seems to spin fine and I can see any blockages.

This is driving me mad now, does anyone have any idea how I can get it working again?

Your words of advice would be appreciated in my time of need.

muck clogged filter media and sponges (especially) could present enough losses for your flow to go down to a trickle. It happens to me on my 2211 all the time, just have to clean or change the sponge and the filter will pump out water like a champ again.

Can share the age of your 2213.
Also you tested with full media?

You need to narrow down the cause, to see what is causing the slow flowrate.

what i would do when i encounter such problem is to re-install it.

drain the canister than re-pipe it. after which , suck on the outlet.

    Low tech tank FTW!

I had the exact same problem. Mouthfuls of water. Spent an hour. And realised I connected my inlet to my outlet and vice versa. Felt so stupid. Maybe you would like to check that your inflow is connected to the bottom of your 2213 and outflow to the top of the 2213.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies everyone. Paradox You are my favourite person at the minute.

I'm glad I'm not the only person to make this mistake. Something so simple but I just couldnt see it. I do feel stupid now though.

I had completely taken it apart a few times, but always connected the inlet to the top as I'd mixed up the hoses when cleaning it.

    Thanks again

You can put marking. Easier that way.
I'm using double taps and the tone is not same for each.

You can actually just make sure powerhead and inside of the canister has water.

FYI, I do not suck I simply siphon and let the tank water fill the canister. Then make the powerhead area don't have too many air pockets.

Maybe he fill it from the pipe using that.
Very long ago I used to do that, but the $2 used few times broken.

    Re: Eheim 2213 help

Just connect the output of the ehiem pump to the input of the $2 pump...just use your hand to hold the connection of the pipe tight and squeeze the $2 pump to create suction pressure in ehiem to fill up with water.
If the water have fill up to the output tubing of the ehiem pump....switch on the ehiem and water will flow.

It is still better than having mouthful of dirty aquarium water....

I ever used a $6-8 power head connected to the inflow. Back when I was still using similar flowrate model (atman cf800). Before I actually opened and re-greased the then stuck priming button thing.

Come to think of it, it's a white elephant now. Lol
