in my opinion, i would prefer the second orientation. looks more even/symmetrical to me. well it appeals to me. just do what you like.

Just set up a 1ft cube and a 2ft tank..rocks and planted, all low tech within 1 month..
So this 3ft(intended) might go for biotope, or high tech planted dw with rock..
