Is it normal for fighting fish to attack guppies?
Err...ya. =P
Most of the time the Betta will attack other fish. Territorial. (Hence, the name fighting fish) but there are times I do see Betta coexisting in a community tank.
My suggestion, google for keeping a betta. Know the fish. Then observe your fish and its behaviour. Soon you will understand why they do certain things.
