much better, but i was thinking would it look better if you rotate the bigger rock on the right, thus pointing to the left

IMO I think all of your rocks are too small for the tank, especially the focus Rock, it should at least be higher than half of your tank's height, or else when plants grows, your hard scape would not be prominent at all. Imagine the soil + around 1 and half inch (plants), what would be left from your rocks?
Anyway, good try on first scape!
I'm currently doing a small iwagumi scape as well using the same kind of rocks by the way.. Haha

That is quite true, so make sure you use small plants and drain about 1/3 of your water during photo taking

I also find the rocks too small but can't find any bigger similar rocks. think also due to the tank height too high. will use some japanese hairgrass and mini fissiden as foreground plant

Haha, robert I think the most of us here wants a tank to look at to ease our stress in school/at work. You are the one who are required to take photos for competitions. Hahahaha..

Hi TS, y618 just restock recently this kind of rocks(dragon rocks as they called), I definitely saw some large ones when I was there last week, you might want to try your luck there before flooding your tank. Better than after settling everything and change later.

I like your second arrangement, it doesn't follow strictly the Iwagumi style but creates an interesting effect of layers. I just started a 2 feet set-up experimenting using riccia on mesh as my foreground plant, will have to wait two weeks or so to see the effect. Riccia is much easier to tie than mini fissidens, and I simply love the pearling effect. Will update you if riccia works well for me!

Raise the height of the slope by adding rock in e soil. And make the right side more shape. Better or worst?

    Re: Newbie 2ft Iwagumi Tank

Now I know why people say can feel the frustration when doing up a scape to their liking. I am feeling that already. Try again last night.
Got the Mosura old sea mud. Can I just spread them on the soil or do I have to spread them under the soil?

    Nice rocks, bro.

I don't know much about Iwagumi setup, just read some postings/aritcles recently and came to know a brief concept of it.

I thought this was a pretty nice layout (photo IMG_0067.jpg).

Probably you can do something to the 2 front-most rocks on the left, so that it is "pointing" to the big rock at the back, something like how those rocks on the right are pointing to.

Again, I am not good with Iwagumi, don't think I am even considered newbie since I don't have experience with it. Just throwing a wild idea around ya.

Thanks bro 14litre for the suggestion. Now I have changed out the smaller rocks for bigger ones. Finalize the scape and will be adding plants and water in awhile.
    This is the final scape:

    Re: Newbie 2ft Iwagumi Tank

understand how you feel. i did my scape for serveral times, even flood the tank and rescape few times, until my wife say i siao. But i do enjoy the scaping process, with each scape giving you a different feel.

IMO, i feel that you can raise the rock higher. If you need any egg crates, i still have some spare (left over) and can pass to you. I located at jurong west.

    enjoy your scaping process.

This one was the best to me actually.

And the set of small rocks you arranged before buying the big ones was good too, there was flow in it. I've also made the same mistake of buying rocks that are too small... it's so easy to underestimate.
