Went to my LFS nearby and saw they had a couple of Green Tree Frogs and was interested.

Is having a no substrate safe? I am thinking of leaving the base flooded. But i will leave areas of land for them to rest on.

If not, where can i get artificial grass and do I need to wash or clean the grass?

    Hi eiontay

Welcome to vivarium section and I 'm so glad you've shown some great interest in keeping Whites.

Frankly, speaking, the Whites actually do not like wet conditions live in or near water, but instead live in trees that giving the Whites access to water from the almost daily rains, and the Whites always have a source of water to keep moist.

However, as with most Whites, if their environment dries out completely they could run into problems hence a light misting once or twice a day is ideal.

I suggest you to read other threads and postings or "Google" to gain more understand in order to enrich yourself clearly about how to create or built a perfect enclosure for your Whites.

If you need any advice how to build your Whites's perfect enclosure, please do kindly to share your thoughts.

    Let me know your thoughts.
    cheers

How about just having a bare bottom tank and a water bowl? I intend to place many spare bogwood and driftwood from my previous aquarium set-ups.

Another question, are there other staple food other than crickets? I am not really into jumpy insects.

    Hi eiontay,

Can you advise me the tank that you are going to use for the White's enclosure?

I don't recommend you a bare bottom tank. You will be dealing a lot of poos. Please do furnish your White enclosure with 5cm of normal pesticide-free top soil from the nursery a good substrate is the best option because top soil contains natural, helpful bacteria, which can better stabilise the Whites poos. Another alternative is to use clay peats together with 5cm of water and with a canister filter. This latter setup should be cycled like a fish tank to allow the filter to develop a good population of poos processing bacteria to keep your enclosure healthy. If you want to keep the maintenance simple and the look of the enclosure really isn't a consideration for you, then white paper towels can be used as a substrate, a cat or dog bowl can provide water. Remember to provide regular maintenance and keep things clean and sanitary hence for what I know paper towels have known for harbouring more bacteria( that made the Whites sick) than top soil substrate so bear this in mind when come to a cleaning schedule.

You may use Bogwood or driftwood as branches a place to climb on, however, please do away with the sharp point that will seriously injure your White when it jumped. Remember the Whites are strong jumper.

As for food...sighs Crickets is actually the best choice for the Whites...in fact; the White is truly mainly insectivores, yeah sometime my Whites do eat pinkies( baby mice) and its own smaller species. You may try super worms or mealworm as an alternate feeds, however, crickets has the better nutrients than superworms/mealworms. Hence you still must feed the Whites cricket eventually. Please do not feed pellets or whatever hard stuff that will lead to bad indigestion to Whites...remember the Whites are insectivores.

Actually, the White are easy to keep as long as they are kept in a cage with good ventilation, good feed and well maintenance substrates.

    Hope this will help you.
    cheers

Read that. Flooded bottom could work with a filter, but you will have to watch the humidity levels well. Rather subjective as to whether white's will drown.

My suggestion is you only attempt this after a quarantine to ensure that your frog is in good health, and provide some items for the frog to leave the water.

For my 4ft, tall terrarium has 3.5ft tall waterfall, and I placed two impellers to keep the terrarium cool and exhaust high RH. According to my humidity gauge read bearable for my 50 Whites. If you can place an impeller on top of your terrarium if you are too worry about humidity level.

White will drown??? They are, in fact, a good swimmer! Look at their webbed hind feet! Anyway, my 4ft tall vivarium has 1ft of water doesn't deter my Whites to swim around if Whites're comfortable. Like I say before White don't like wet condition and always stay high and dry on branches, sitting there and sleeping still.

High ventilation, high humidity is key.
