Shop around... some LFS might have better prices or deals.
Vincent - AQ is for everyone, but not for 'u' and 'mi'.
Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:
A woman, without her man, is nothing.
A woman: without her, man is nothing.

    Re:

    hi ,

I hv a few doubt to clear :

    1. Will the HL-380 suit a 4x2x2 planted tank?
    2. Is it power consumption hungry, i am planning to maintain the temp at 25~26degC..don't know how much electricity bill will be incurred..daily?
    3. i heard after a year , it started to be noisy. (Maybe need to go for half yearly maintenance .) Is this normal.
    4. Important question is ...what is the life span of a chiller if proper maintenance is carried out correctly?

hope someone can hep to assist me and piggy since u r refering to this brand , i sort of borrow yr topic. thanks.

    best regards,
    edwin

    hi mike,

Maybe we can gather more forumers and have better bargaining power. but firstly need to find out the maintenance cost...that is what holding me back. Need more feedback from fellow forumers.

Currently my 4ft tank water temp is ard 26~28degC. And I might be bringing back some Crystal Red Shrimps and Pearl Shrimps from overseas , i'm afraid it might not survive in our hot weather. The previous batch of pearl shrimps lasted only a few months.

the chiller consumes 384w of electricity.
assuming it runs 12hours daily, consumption will be 4.6kwh.
electricity tariff of $0.1544/kwh will mean $0.711/day.

What about heat output/outlet ? Must it be placed outside of the room like those portable aircon unit ? Will heat be an issue if I put the chiller in my living room ?

    Re:

thanks tawauboy for enlighting me on the PUB bills.

As my tank water temp is around 26deg, and if my chiller is set to 24deg, does it mean the chiller will run 24hrs non stop to maintain to 24deg ? It will be working like a fridge. Meaning it will cost $1.40 daily. Is this true?

If this is the case, will it be better to get a slightly higher hp model, was thinking of the JBJ Antartica model, with 2 years warranty and 2 free maintenance. Mikekoh...err..r u with me ?

One thing bother me is the question posted by GanCW....heat in the living room...

    regards

incidentally, you better check the noise ratings of these chillers before you decide on them.

chiller maintenance involves reversing the flow of water to flush out anything.. *algae/biofilm* occasionally

    Re:

Using a 1/4hp Hailea for my 3ft tank, noise level is acceptable.

Wonder if there is any tap or connector that I can connect to the inlet and outlet of the chiller, it will make alot maintenance easier. Its really a chore to clean the hoses and I wet the place very time.

Would be good if I can get something like the Eheim 2026 connector which has a valve to prevent water from flowing out once the hose is removed.

A LFS wanted to charge me $15 per pair!
