The method works, I do a bit different with the substrate but the methods and the how are similar. I don't even do the 10%, I do once every 6 months around 30-50%, feed fish, I have yet to clean the glass after over a year and half. My sister's tank is 8 years old now, very nice plant tank with nice red Alternathera and hairgrass, a pack of SAE's and shrimp. My sister is no good at taking care of anything but can over feed daily and add water for evaporation.

You can use some harder to grow plants as the easier plants grow in, add rocks, wood etc and have open top tanks with emergent growth.
It takes longer to realize your aquascape but you can take these tanks to a high level.

That is BS they are copying her book. Why the hell don't these folks just ask to author? Many times that's all they want. I've spotted my pics and writing all over but seldom do they even bother to ask you.
That pisses me off more than anything to do with $.

    Regards,
    Tom Barr

    Re:

    [quote:636f95d70a="mordrake"]just checked out www.amazon.com.
it's selling for USD 24.47 excluding shipping.
    anyone bought books online before?[/quote:636f95d70a]

    mordrake,

you are right that you can save money ordering from amazon. i saw amano volume one going for $88 at Borders. if you orders this book alone USD$24.47 + USD$6.99 + USD$4.99 = USD$36.45 exchange $1.65 = SGD$60.14. still cheaper than Borders... about $88 for volume one. in this example you save 30% on a single book order! diana's book is going for USD$23.07 2nd ed. and you can't order it from Borders. just checked over the weekend.

i have ordered books from amazon many times. you just have to live with the timing (as quick as 2 to as many as 8 weeks). i normally purchase at least 10 books each time. this is to defray the "per order" cost of USD$6.99 - there is a per order charge and a per item charge. so an order of 3 books would be USD$6.99 + USD$4.99 x 3 books or USD$21.95.

they also have resellers and used book sellers. shipping price for these items are more expensive at USD$9.79. however, they are good for out-of-print books. just have common sense when you buy these as some take advantage of the out-of-print status to markup prices from the original list price.

GST is only payable for shipments exceeding SGD$400. since amazon ships and charges for the specific shipment you will rarely have to pay for GST. for example if you buy SGD$600 of books and the items were sent in three shipments of $200, $100 and $300 you don't have to pay GST.

before you buy from amazon its a good idea to check the price from places like Borders or Kinokuniya. unfortunately Borders has recently implemented a SGD$7 per book charge for special orders. having said that i recently got a book "Homo Delphinus" by Jacques Mayol, the father of freediving and inspiration for the movie "Deep Blue" from Borders at about $136 + $7 compared to amazon USD$95 + shipping. you do the math...

amazon have quite a few titles that are heavily discounted. if you choose your titles carefully you can save as much as 20% from your overall order. PLUS, the USD exchange is good now about $1.63 (current rate). bank with apply "extra tax" for exchange to about $1.65. but i usually budget $1.70. anything less is a "bonus" for me! feel free ask if you are unsure about what i've said.

    happy hunting!

I am definitely into non-CO2 aquarium...

You folks should see all the non CO2 planted dutch tanks from the 1950- and 1960's.

    Awesome aquascapes and no CO2.

Non CO2 tanks can look great, things grow slower and that allows you more wiggle room.

That's why no water changes are needed.
I do dose a little SeaChem EQ once a week and KNO3 every so often.

Weekly at about 1/2 to 1/4 the CO2 enriched tanks.
Non CO2 tank growth rates are 5-10x slower so you might prune once every month or two vs weekly.

If you add the KNO3/PO4/SeaChem Eq every so often , that will allow you to grow most species that many suggest are not possible with non CO2.

I have seen Walstad's book in Kinokuniya at Takashimaya. So it's on their stock list.
