this is quite inevitable you can help by buying a bigger filter to 'overkill' on the flowrate.but that will get you a unlike button from your wallet![]()
Hi guys, i recently got a small japan brand external filter and it seems like the pump always gets choked by the grime and slimey stuff frm the tank. The frequency is every 3-4 days it will get choked.
Is it the cheap filter problem or is there a better way to prevent this?
Thanks for any advice!

what kind of external filter?
OHF? HOF? Canister?
Ivy, maybe good to show us photos of your filter and your tank setup...
The Eden 501 filter for my recent vivarium seems to be choked only 2 weeks after operation; the water output from the rainbar was so pathetic that it was dripping drops of water... My initial thoughts was if the filter is already too old...... Then I noticed that there are some slims inside the rainbar that are blocking the water flow...
... Upon further investigation, I suddenly realized that my rainbar is directly under my aquarium light, causing algae and slim to grow inside the rainbar... Therefore, I just clean up the rainbar and block it from the light source... Everything went well since then....

You can try adding a PreFilter stuff with wool..
