By the way I am using coral sand as substrate, I think this should not be a problem cuz this tank is not a stand alone tank. It is connected to a 8x4 fgt with plenty of fish stock, which means I cud also use the coral sand to buffer the overall ph. So it'll be something low tech no CO2.....Now I need to consider the type of plants... which I know nuts, I think I prefer grassy types or maybe java moss to carpet the front area...
wow see that you are using a detachable stand for your 4ft tank. able to support the weight?
Will be looking forward to see the plant choice. Very interesting for a low-tech iwagumi.
update.... a bit of rescaping/relevelling, added some neon tetras and grass-like plants to the corner, I did some research on plants eg wuz keen on blyxa japonica but the problem is sometimes we can't get what we planned cuz its all about availability at LFSes... most don't do non-CO2 plants so juz make do with what is available, I think the biggest challenge here with be the type of plants carpeting... the ones that interests me like HC, grosso, Elatine Tr etc are either needing CO2 or not available, the LFS I went to even say no way I can do nice carpeting without CO2...haiz

,and if it starts to brown off and die, you will need to research more on the harmony between lights, temperature, substrate & co2 before you start. Furthermore, you have nice rocks, but no one is sure if it will alter the water condition affecting the fish, then plants. You really should conduct some tests with a little plants first.
Juz an update, plants seem to stabilise, I donno the names of the plants except java moss... and bacopa?

looking good
I think it would have been better had your subtrate been higher towards the back. That way, it would provide for a more 3D effect view. especially your white sand duplicating a path towards a valley.
Snails in the tank! Your tank must be thriving
