Hello guys. So I recently got a Gex S tank and also a Gex S hang on filter. I've set the flow rate to highest to reduce rattling sound. Question is how do I know if the current is too strong for my fishes? I am having a few guppies, small ones that are for feeding(but I keep them for fun) and also a java fern. Some guppies are really small.

If you see your fishes flying around the tank, that means the flow rate is too high. But this do not apply to all fishes, some do enjoy the current GEX "fat" S filters are infamous for their rattling sound. You could either get a smaller HOF or go for sponge filters.

I see. Just wondering if I should put more plants or stones for them to hide behind. I only have 1 small java fern and only the baby guppies hide behind from the strong current when they sleep.

You can probably stuff abit of filter wool at the exit area so that the flow will be reduced. Cheap method but a bit unsightly
