Migration from HOB to canister filter

    Hi folks,

can I check if the following way which I intend to migrate from my existing HOB filter(Fluval C3) to canister filter(Eheim 2224) is possible/and safe?

I am not planning to run both at the same time, as I think it will probably drive my fish and plants crazy as either one is already more than sufficient for my 10gallon tank.

What I plan to do is to move the biomedia which I have in my C3(basically 250ml of Matrix + a little Mr Aqua CRs to fill up the remaining space-not much actually) into the 2224. The foam filter pad I had just rinsed it recently, so it's probably not very significant in terms of BB that is still on it.

Other than that, I guess that's about it. I have some Seachem Stability leftover from cycling the tank previously, will probably add them into the tank for a couple of days once I introduce the 2224(this weekend).

Do you think this will work? My water parameters are basically 0.25ppm of ammonia(not sure why it is still hovering there after almost 2 months), zero nitrite and about 20ppm of nitrate in a moderately planted tank(most of the substrate is covered with plants but mostly little ones and not the big leafy ones) with 5 tetras, 2 otos and 2 corys.

Many thanks in advance for all advice to be given.

    Cheers.

Yes I think it will work! Less feeding for few days may help to build up bacteria in the new canister.

Stick with moving media over. Make sure you rinse the new media abit.

You still can feed your fish.

Thanks. Now trying to figure out where to place the 250ml worth of Matrix and small amount of Mr Aqua CRs ...

    Options:
    1) Mix with SubstratPro on the top holder (meaning there will be some spare SubstratPro left unused in this case)
    2) Mix with the Mech on the bottom holder (meaning there will be some spare Mech left unused in this case)
    3) Place Matrix at the bottom empty area of the 2224, deploying the SubstratPro and Mech as given in the package.
