Electronic Valve (solenoid)

I just got one from NA today and just now I notice something...

When it's on, I get some uncomfortable electric shock when I try to turn the built-in needle valve knob. like leaking current.

Is this normal?? How actually does a solenoid work?
off = closed, on = open?? then can control with timer?

might be a faulty solenoid as it leaks current..... get it changed.

try swapping the orientation of the electrical plug if it is a 2-pin.
else bring it back to nature aquarium.

switch on power, valve opens to release co2.
switch off power, valve closes.

and it is not called an electronic valve as there is no electronics involved.
an electrical valve or solenoid valve.

I think it's a manufacturing defect. I'm bringing it back to NA for change tml...
Hope mine don't explode so soon lol!

Aeon, if you have spanners at home, you can remove the Solenoid and replace it with the needle valve. Else switch it off completely. Better safe then sorry. Your tank should be ok without CO2 for a day or 2.

Oh, the solenoid toasted. I switched it on this morning 8am. now I see no bubbles. CP at 0 PSI lol! and the whole cyliner + regulator got current leak.

I'm going to NA for a swap... so troublesome, from Yishun quite far man... sigh... anyway I'm going to get the Matrix brand ADA pollen glass copy diffusor. $9...

Mine exploded too.

You can reverse the 2 pin connection. The current leak should be gone. Mr Chan tested and proved it for me.

I think it's a low quality solenoid. The inbuilt components could not handle the AC current properly. X. You know that AC current goes both way, probably the design has a flaw where there are no proper restricting capacitor within the solenoid's circuit board for a particular current path. That way reversing the pins might help routing the current through another set of pathways, thus "reducing" the current leakage. Anyway it's still dangerous, I would rather get it changed. Explosion is a BAD thing , safety first.... Always get faulty electronic equipment changed, you don't want a fire hazard.....

All these electronics.... confusing stuff

a solenoid is just a coil.
a length of copper wound many time round and round to form a coil.
no other components, no circuit boards.
and capacitor don't restrict anything, just an energy storage device.

Mine didn't blow, just stopped working...
It's a manufacturing defect I think. Mr Chan gave me a replacement, same brand and model, no leakage.
