Yup it is normal to be hot for passive cooling module. As long it is within the thermo limit. It should be fine

Hi Sacy, thanks because I scare it will melt the acrylic....

Do you know how to connect the LED downlight type with 2pin ? Can I just connect to my use cooling fan adapter which is 12v output. Need to put on top of my cube tank...

    Thanks...

Your acrylic will not melt. But if I'm not wrong, if it exposed to prolong heat at around 80c to 90c it will slowly loose it shape, like bent or warp. So do check on the temperature on your acrylic. Be safe try not to let the acrylic to heat up to 70c

For the downright thing, I don't understand. Got photo?

But to counter this problem. Why not just lift up you light set about 3cm away from your acrylic.

    Re: DIY LED lights

My is not the Down light type.

But you got to check your down light's voltage. some have built-in regulator(able to work with AC 220v-240v local) , some don't have built-in regulator(able to work with DC voltage only)

    Re: DIY LED lights

not really. the current out put of your adapter got to be in check also.

if you use a 1.8amp current out put adapter. And this will cause the led to get very bright and slowly burn-out. (over-drive)

unless the down light have current limiting circuit built-in, if not the led from the down light will just draw(eat) what ever amount of current the adapter can supply them.

What is your down light current rating?

If it is around 360mA. Then should be ok

Nice work bro. Do insulate the exposed lead area to prevent short circuit.
