I use the HM digital brand. Got it from GC, price I forgotten but I think roughly $50?. Easy to use I like mine a lot.

HM has a number of TDS meters, both handheld and "in-line." Handhelds go for less than $20 to about $60. Inlines go for about $30 to $45.
If you get a handheld, avoid the TDS-EZ as it doesn't include automatic temperature compensation (this is especially true if you are concerned with precise measurements near 0 ppm TDS).

TDS meters generally last for very long as long as they are not abused. You may need to calibrate from time to time though, especially after every battery change.
The meters are factory-calibrated initially. After some time, they will require calibration. Typically, it's probably good to re-calibrate once a month or so.
I'm using this meter from HM Digital: http://www.tdsmeter.com/products/ap1.html - AP-1 AquaPro
As for the difference between the Mosura and the HM Digital meters, I guess it's only the brand.

I believe the meter works by simply measuring an electrical current between 2 electrodes? These are stainless steel and more or less like 2 wires which should not be depleted. Corrosion or being covered with crap will likely degrade them but that should not happen under normal usage.
I calibrate with a 200 TDS reference solution each time I change batteries. I notice that as the batteries weakens, the readings also go off quite a fair bit so do not try to max out the batteries, just change when the digital display looks faded.
My meter is from a local ebay seller. About $30 and works ok. Only thing is it's factory calibrated and cannot be adjusted. So now I just have to remember that it's 13 TDS too low (based on last calibration) and add 13 to my readings.
China sites, better not try.
I'm thinking of upgrading to a unit that can read EC...hehe
Try cleaning the probes with a cotton bud. You'll probably be surprised by the readings after that.
Huh? You mean for me? Hmmmm...I'll go try later tonight
Is the mosura one good? approximately how much?![]()
Today i bought HM digital AP-1 from Petmart.Quite satisfied with display and build quality. It has automatic temperature compensation and can be digitally calibrated using NaCl solution.
Found out the Bedok tap water is 62ppm and my tank water ~85ppm.

i just got a mosura TDS meter, anyone know how to calibrate it? and where to get the solution?
thanks
I bought my mosura Tds meter from c328 about $50. It comes with the solution. If not, I know green chapter is selling it.
Just fill a container up, pull the meter into it and finally adjust the screw behind accordingly.
Can the solution be reuse? Normally throw them away after each reading.
