Looks like there's no easy way out of this problem...Hahaha!
Hi all,
I'm facing a rather irritating problem. Some springtails had decided to take up residence on the surface of my shrimp tank.
They are mostly found on the frogbits and the smaller ones like to float on the surface of the water as well as cluster around mesh, air hose and any other thing that touches the water surface.
For awhile I was quite hardworking to remove the bigger ones and skim off what I can. But whenever I gave them a break, they started to take over the surface.
Since I cannot use any toxic chemicals, I'm wondering if there's any safe surfactant that can be used to reduce surface tension so they fall in and drown?
Or introduce some small fishes to eat them?
I know I'll have to remove all floating plants for either methods to work but I need to know if its worth the risk? Anyone tried either methods before?
Or the only way is manual removal aggressively until all the adults gone and all the youngs are removed before they can lay eggs?.
Edit: Looks like surfactants are not a good idea...anyone with any out of the box solutions?
