Water turning yellow

Hi guys,

I noticed that my tank water is turning yellow. I recently added a plant that came with a rather big piece of wood. So after some searching, the internet says that there is a possibility it's the tannin from the wood that is causing the water in my tank to turn yellow. I have since removed the plant and wood and quarantined it in another temporary tank. I have done about 3 water changes at about 15% water. However the water is still yellowish.

could there be other reasons why the water is turning slightly yellow? could it be algae? How can I determine if it's just tannin from the wood?

[edit] For my filter, I am using a gex s hof, inside I replaced the spent cartridge with small ceremic rings in a media bag, and also filter wool.

How big is your tank? Can take a pic?

I got a feeling you got a 1 feet tank and dumped in a big chunk of dw.

Preparation of drift wood for use in tank could be by soaking in hot water a few times to leech out the tannins. I normally soaked it in normal tap water for weeks before i use it.

Bro gabriel is right. You have to soak the driftwood for quite sometime before use. Especially if you have a small tank. Try water change a few more times in the next few days. Your water should run clear. Or you can use activated carbon to remove the yellow tint.
