    Hi,
    my guppies have been dying in the tank with tail fins nipped. Please help to identify the killers. My tank occupants are:

    6x guppies
    3x cory
    5x rasboras
    5x rummy nose
    5x green neon tetras
    2x zebra loaches
    2x golden algae eaters
    3x 'bleeding heart tetra' (breed unidentified. similar to bleeding heart'
    1x black phantom tetra
    11 shrimps (orange, sakura, yamato)
    1x beta

    Plants
    planted tank with lots of hiding places...

    I understand that some of the fishes can nip, but what is the one that is the aggressor that kills?

    That's alot of live stock. The betta is highly possible to be the one who nips on your guppies. I don't recommend keep guppies and bettas together.

    Betta will nip guppy tail.
    To what extent depend on tank, the other one might be rasboras (only maybe).

    Tetras quite peaceful to me.

    United Nation!! Hehe. I'll be a hypocrite if I say that's too much livestocks though, which it is. I have 12 harlequin, 8 choprae, 20 marigatatus, 50 malayan, 4 panda cory, 4 forgotten the name cory, 3 sae, 4 otos, 8 Yamatos, 6 assasin snails. =P Been like that for months now. Storage while I get more funds for materials for the 3ft. Anyway, thats not the question. Of all the Betta will nip other fish. However, it really depends on your Betta characteristics though. Some Bettas have been known to live peacefully in a community tank. Have kept rummy nose and they are very docile. Always together. They can grow big and avoids confrontation.

    haha,
    thanks for all the inputs and guesses. My beta just RIP. really like that guy. ( it's a half moon blue with white ends...
    Also, 1 green tetra died. hiaz, don't know what's next.
    btw, i just inserted a new blue filter media (cotton -blue in color), not sure if that poisons the water. I soaked it in another tub for half day though.

    Is it a boyu tank?
    If it is....maybe it is slightly packed.
    Unless your filtration is more then enough for that amount of livestock.

    Blue filter wool, the ones that NTUC stocks?

    Btw, it's a good time to take a good look at the fishes. In the case of over stocked tank, dead of 1 single fish can mean a bad chain reaction.

    It's a classica tank - bow front. Why chain reaction? 'cos decomposing fish?
    It's blue colour filter wool bought from the one at seletar
    The rest of the fishes look happy and active though

    Only just in case, if the deceased fish got sick and attack by other fish.

    So you mean the one is the very big one? Or those just nice can squeeze into ohf ones? I never soak filter wool overnight before use. At the most just rinse in tank water.

    Yup that's the one ntuc also selling (of course more expensive then lfs haha)

    Actually I noticed, betta really like to attack other fish with nice fins.
    I kept with fancy guppy when I was young. The guppies ended up all having torn fins.

    Re: problems with 2 feet community tank

    My 2 foot Classica bow-front tank has been giving me problems.
    1. 1 tube spoil after 2 weeks
    2. 2 tubes don't work after 3 months; don't know if it's starter or wiring problem yet.
    3. the protective plastic casing cracking from the tight screws
    4. water spills when I fill water below the rim with medium filter speed.
    not sure if others have the same problems. not sure what other problems will come ...

    Could it be water splashing on the light fixtures causing them to break down?

    Maybe you can try and post a big picture showing the top of the tank with the filter and lights?

    i have a 2 feet classica tank.... no problem so far... the screw points for light splash protection are indeed a bit fragile, but overall its a problem free tank for me....

    Re: problems with 2 feet community tank

    cannot be the water and the light tube, 'cos they are protected by a plastics cover screwed in.
    by-the-way,
    6x guppies -> 5x guppies
    3x cory -> 2x cory
    5x rasboras -> 4x rasboras
    5x rummy nose -> 2xrummy nose
    5x green neon tetras -> 1 tetra
    2x zebra loaches -> 1 loach
    2x golden algae eaters -> 1 golden algae eater
    3x 'bleeding heart tetra' (breed unidentified. similar to bleeding heart' -> 3 tetra
    1x black phantom tetra -> 1 black tetra
    11 shrimps (orange, sakura, yamato) -> 4 shrimps
    1x beta -> 0 beta -> 1 new beta
    looks pretty bad for a supposedly cycled tank...

    Whats the ambient temperature of the tank? Could be the moist causing damage to the bulbs.

    Re: problems with 2 feet community tank

    Ur experience very like mine when I started. U sure is nipping? I also though so until I kept only guppies then ppl say short tails and long tails also nip so finally from 1 community tank become few small tanks. Still had fin nip. Issue to me is bacteria. Fin rot.

    Try not having betta. If you insist, best learn to accept they are the likely suspect.

    Guy, best refrain from using SMS lingo, else some posts will go missing.
