    Hello...

I'm planning to start a planted aquarium and re-create one of the masterpiece for shrimps.

H.E.L.P Advanced Soil has a type for plants. Can I ask will it be sufficient to just use that substrate alongside with the required nutrients and fertilizers?

I see on some of the videos and websites that even before they add in substrates, they will add in some powder, then base fertilizers, then maybe some powder again, then substrates before they place the hardscapes and plant the plants before inserting nutrients capsules beside those nutrients hungry plants.

Will I have to follow the same with Advanced Soil (PLANTS)?

Appreciate all the inputs and recommendations! Thanks!

Re: Any guides on how to start a planted tank with H.E.L.P Advanced soil?

    1) I have no experience with that soil you mentioned.
    2) Shrimps I have no experience either. But its a sensitive topic. CRS/BDS whatever. Shrimpkeepers quarrel a lot on their equipments, their lineage, experience blah blah blah. A lot.
    3) Trying to put it in a nice way, screw those magic dust you've mentioned. Hocus pocus. Plants grew same for my Gex and Amazonia. Personally, I used ADA Amazonia and then Profito for liquid fert. Malayan and Yamato looks okay but I'm not sure for those more expensive shrimps. (Can make chincalok)

By the way, if you do plants for shrimps, take note of the liquid ferts you dose. Something along the lines of shrimp don't like copper in their system. Excel makes them lethargic.

As I do not have any experience with the soil you mentioned, just add it in without any base ferts? Put your hardscape in. Cycle. Liquid fert...this one make sure to check the content or advice from other shrimp keepers with planted tanks. There are some nice shrimpkeepers in here.

    Hi there,

What kind of size aquarium your looking at?
Which master shrimp tank you are mentioning.

All aquasoil (pellet) have some nutrient value in them. Liquid or should I mention as additional ferts will good as submersed plants also take in nutrient from their leaves from water.

There's two sides of the wall. Try a planted with just aquasoil and base fert if you do really need.
Dosing liquid fert will depend which evil side to take, most bro agree planted tank cannot is very hard to keep with shrimps higher then crs. ( I do mean higher like bkk)

    Let us know.

    Hello...

Did you just use the advanced soil for plants alone with the plants and shrimps? Or did you spread both soil for plants and shrimps in one tank? So what happens when they turn into mud? Do you top up with new layer?

Is it possible to use the advanced soil for plants as base fertz with the soil for shrimps on top?

Ya. The plants are not difficult actually. In fact, they are all mosses! I would want to include glossos in the tank too...

I do not want them to just grow... I'm looking at a thriving aquarium. Since mosses do not rly need CO2. I'm putting that on delay first. But at least there must be nutrient for these greens to absorb...

Do you use the soil for both plants and shrimps? I saw on the packaging saying that the soil is suitable for both plants and shrimps. Do u add in additional fertilizers below the advanced soil substrate? Do u add in additonal nutrients capsules to your plants too?

I just use the shrimp type only. I top up with a new thin layer of soil once they go muddy. As for base ferts, i just dump in OF root monster/root stick. Makes my plant go wild. hahaha

I am thinking to replace the brown substrates with BORNEOWILD Plant Soil... The description looks great for both plants and the critters... Any advise on this?

Also, I believed sand was used in this set up. Can I ask if sand will affect any of the water parameters if used in the above shown amount?

    Thanks!
