I'm using it for my office tank. So far so good. Fishes and plants are happy.
hi im planning to use flourish excel as a source of co2...
anyone had experience on it?
my tank is only 1.5x1x1 ft... planning to put only 0.75ml every 2 days...
is flourish excel harmful to my fishes?....
in long run.... using flourish excel is cheaper then other sorce of co2...(i had try diy co2 and currenly using a clyinder type co2)
it cost around $12 per bottle and by using 0.75 ml every 2 days...
it can last me more then 1 year.... for my tank... cheap and easy to use...
pls advice

Hi,
So how did you measure 0.75ml of flourish excel? Does it come with a measuring gauge? If we convert to caps or drops, what would it be equivalent of?
Thanks!
I'm adding 2ml daily to my 1ft cube. Plants are doing ok. I think 0.75ml is not enough for your tank cos' your tank volume should be about 40 litres, and the instructions are 5ml per 40L initially and 1ml per 40L daily after that.
No danger to the fish if you don't overdose, but I would suggest you dilute it in some water before pouring into your tank though, cos' once I accidentally squirted one shot at one rasbora that was swimming by, that fella went spiralling and died within 15 minutes![]()

It has a 1ml plastic pipette included in the bottle with 0.25ml graduations.![]()

thanks for replying....
0.75 is enough....
the instruction say every 1 ml for every 40l... which is 10 gallon....(for everyday or every otherday)
and a 1.5 x1x1 ft tank is only 42l... or 11 gallon if water is fill from bottom to the top...
but... in side my tank there is gravel which is about 2and half inch
and and there is a very big driff wood inside
and i dont fill the water right to the very top....
thus the the water in my tank is only 7 to 8 gallon...
thus i decided to put 0.75ml every other day
2ml daily for your 1ft tank is way too much you r over dosing your tank....
hope u understant where im coming from...
thanks
the total water volume in my tank is 44cm x 29 x 23 ...
which is equal to 8.1 gallon...
and there a big driff wood inside..... this water volume is between 7 to 8 gallon....
thats why i only put 0.75ml
hope that what i had explain will clear everything

EXCEL is the CARBON(Nitrient) supplement as oppose CO2(gas). I also read that CO2 is major contributor of CARBON(Nitrient) to planted tank.
In science, we learnt that plant need CO2 and light for Photosynthesis to produce food for growth.
Is dosing EXCEL equivalent to supplying CO2 for Photosynthesis?
While on the subject of CO2, anyone experince CO2 Tablets and care to comments?
Thank you.
My very layman understanding: CO2 is the primary source of carbon for plants. The plants still have to convert the CO2 into some other form of carbon to be utilised in photosynthesis. Flourish excel contains a form of carbon similar to one of the intermediary forms in the plants' conversion process. The plants can absorb and use this carbon.

A woman: without her, man is nothing.

Hi,
Here's a quote from the Seachem website:
"Flourish Excel™ is a simple source of readily available organic carbon. All plants require a source of carbon. This is typically obtained from CO2, but, may also be obtained via relatively simple organic compounds (such as photosynthetic intermediates). Since both processes occur simultaneously one can derive a substantial benefit with the use of Flourish Excel™ either alone or in conjunction with CO2 injection. Flourish Excel™ also has iron reducing properties which promote the ferrous state of iron (Fe+2), which is more easily utilized by plants than ferric iron (Fe+3)."
I wouldn't say that it's the "equivalent". It's more for small tanks which are not CO2 injected. If you are already injecting CO2, I don't see the need for this product. Be careful when dosing. As ScoobyDoo pointed out, dilute it as much as possible before adding to your tank. It can seriously affect sensitive fish/shrimp if overdosed.
Hi,
I also need some help here, I am very new.
