    Hi,

I am going to set up a tank for possibly panda shrimps. Need some specialised help here if possible. Any other inputs appreciated too!

I am looking at re-making a similar set up like this:

    1_Syrah_Large.jpg

I will also be cycling the tank for about 7 weeks for the mosses to grow properly and the system to establish.

    Can I ask;

What would be the smallest recommended tank size to set up for panda shrimp? (with no regards to the design of the tank)

Where can I get lower grade Panda Shrimps too?

What is the most recommended water condition for Panda Shrimp? (Taken note that there are others with different conditions in which they thrive too)

    Any other recommendations?

    Appreciate your help!

    Thanks.

    Re: Panda Project

Nice planted tanks mean rocks and stone are require to form the scape tank. I really won't advise having scape with KingKong Panda they are naturally more sensitive. They different condition that they are kept and breed doesn't really affect their sensitive gene.

Also there is no such thing as Low grade Pandas only cull one (meaning they have transparent black and white) If you are using it to test maybe but keeping them will spolit the scape tank view.

Good luck in your search for low grade pandas.

That aquascape has been my 'dream' before.. But I am not good with scaping...

Honestly, that aquascape is not good with sensitive shrimps like the KK pandas... Rocks, gravels, will cause water parameter issues..

Give it a try if you want but tell yourself, if it doesn't work, give it a change and try try again...

Ya take it from the bro above he got a very very beautiful scape tank that time. Than the slope got level than the parameter start going haywire.

I keep 2 KK inside that scape tank before ok?? dont play play.... hahaha... Only thing is that they dont survive long due to all those stuff effecting the parameters.....

and yes, shrimps does flatten most of your slopes anywhere after awhile... so no matter how pretty the slope is initially, after awhile, it will be flatten and whatever materials which is used to elevate the slope will be exposed....

    Re: Panda Project

    Hello...

Can I know how will slope levelled by the shrimps affect the water perimeters?

If that scape is not ideal for pandas, what would be the next best set up?

    Thanks!

The flattening of the slope won't affect the parameters but it will affect your scape..

The thing that will cause problems to your parameters are the rocks, stone, gravel..

Setting up is based on individual.. Shrimp keeping and breeding is normally based on simplicity.. Your direction is keeping pandas, then you should be going towards the direction of how to keep/breed KK pandas and not towards the aquascape...

Agree with bro alvinchan , if you manage to have both bkk and scape, soon either one will go haywire.

listen to the experts above , they are the 'guo lai ren' (people whom had experience with it before + experienced shrimp-keepers) if you understand..

rocks are probably out if you want to keep taiwan variants, maybe you can make do with mosses+driftwood and some fairly simple but visually appealing scapes...
demanding plants probably require ferts and i don't think dosing ferts into a tank of bkk seems advisable....

    Re: Panda Project

Of course I will! That was the reason why I came here for advices...

I guessed I will be making do with fairly simple scapes, that tree, and a lot of mosses on the substrate as grass.

But one small rock with a patch of moss will still be alright... yes?

What would be the smallest recommended size tank to keep pandas anyway?

minimum in my opinion should at least be a 2ft , and rocks like lava rocks should be inert and can be used.. taiwan variants are not easy to keep though as they are more sensitive compared as to crs.. do you have any pior experience in keeping shrimps?

I am keeping Fire Reds and Tigers with my girl now... Posted something about it just.

I have some knowledge in regards to water conditioning and stuffs because I used to have cichlids and bettas which I really took pains to make sure the water condition is good for the growth of them. I am very clear that shrimps would definitely need better than what my fishes used to have.

Well, I am willing to learn, try and try and try again till I succeed! No problem!

So long as the gurus here help as much as they can too!

its your choice to give it a try putting in rocks... advise will be to try on shrimps like CRS first before venturing into KK (panda)...

Size wise like what bro leefhker mentioned will be at least 2ft or 50L water volume, its to maintain better water parameter fluctuation during water change...

i think shrimps need much more.. hahaha.. but you need to fail before in order to learn on certain issues... by jumping into KK without really mastering CRS is a big leap but a good try... I believe some hobbyist here have already done so, they might tell you their experiences...

Its more about how much you will be spending in the end which might scare you... hahahaha.... but good to try try and keep trying because that is what is needed in shrimp keeping...

    good luck and happy shrimping...

That is what I believe in too... OK! I think I will start off with CRS first. To see how I can follow up from there.

So with the set up I have shown from my pictures, and with some trial and error, will it be suitable for CRS?

Nano tank too small, not easy to maintain...

    Re: Panda Project

    From your nano tank thread.

I will not advise you to straight jump into keeping panda. Try normal CRS 1st and get all your necessary equipment right. eg. Tank size, chiller, canister. Once you master the skill of keeping them alive and breed well then go into more sensitive ones.

Chiller! Oh. Ok, pardon me for my ignorance, but, can those multi fans equipment be good enough to act as a chiller? or a chiller is a must??

    Re: Panda Project

multi fan can't reach the temp like chiller.

for fan you may get low temp in the colder month only but not a stable temp like what the chiller will give you.

I would think you may need to read up more before going into sensitive ones.

If not you may spend a lot of unnecessary dollars to your lesson of shrimp keeping.
