    Hi guys,

Got a question. I'm using a dolphin HOF for my 1 foot tank. However, I noticed that the surface of the water is almost stagnent. There's dust and oil that does not seem to be moving towards the filter.

The flow rate I've set is the lowest because if I set high, the down pressure from the flow will move the soil below it.

Any ideas how to make the water not stagnent?

    Thanks.

Sorry for this late reply. Had missed reading it it earlier. HOFs is one of my favourite topics.

If the water surface is stagnant, it is obviously because you have not filled the tank water up to the lip of the filter. This is a very common practice by most hobbyists.

If you look at my avatar at the top left, you will see what I mean. That HOF picture shows the water dropping onto the water surface at one spot. It does nothing to move the surface. Furthermore, the water splashing at the thick muck caused by the stagnant surface makes the surface condition even worse. Consequently, oxygen is depleted and fish suffers discomfort, poor health or disease.

    The solution:
    1. Top up the tank water until it touches the outlet lip of the filter. This will eliminate any splashing.
    2. Adjust the water flow until the water pushes the water laterally towards the far end of the tank with sufficient force.
LIFE IS UNBEARABLE WITHOUT A FISH TANK!!!
