Hello
I have some Fundulopanchax sjoestedti eggs I plan on attempting to hatch in a few weeks (Collection date 1/3/2014). However I am not sure what I want to feed the newly hatched fry yet.
I know most suggest BBS, however there are various powdered high protein fry foods that claim to be better. There is even frozen BBS available.
My question is has anyone tried feeding fry anything but Live BBS? And what were the results?
First time posting on the fourm but on here often enough to know it's a good place to ask a question.
Thanks

Always there to help even if i can't i'll try my best to
Stick to BBS. The sjoestedti fry would prefer anything that move. Anything left uneaten would pollute the water and cause the fry to be sick. Another option would be daphnia but I guess they might be harder to find in USA.
Once the fry are about the shape of a tiny fish, you can start offering them grindals or well-cleaned black worms and that would be somewhere around 1.5 to 2 cm.

Thanks guys!
So what about feeding schedule? The first week u would imagine they need a couple feedings a day. But what about subsequent weeks after the first?
SJO is relatively large for a killie. To get anywhere that big, you would have to stick to feeding them twice or thrice a day. Also, other things like ample tank space and clean water would get them to grow faster. Like I've said, once they no longer resemble miniature tadpoles, you can start giving them black worms. If you're worried about things like internal parasites, then start some white worm or grindal cultures. I've heard how good white worms are, just a little bit more work.
Occasional supplement with earthworms might work for SJO as well.
