    hi bro
... today morning as i wake up to turn on my planted tank lights, i realised that i had switched on my solenoid CO2 tank overnight. now i realised that my tank is encountering CO2 poisoning. most fishes are pale, shrimps are dying and my SAE is floating on the surface gasping for air.

i quickly changed 20% water, clear most of the frogbits n salvinnia(floaters), insert two air pumps full blast n switched on all my light in order to make the plants give out O2. my dying SAE i put it in a net to make it stable n not turn over. i'm in school now so i'm praying for the best..
sigh my mistakes may cause the lives of my fishes... sigh...

    sadly,
    Fazdli

CO2 poisoning quite simple to remedy right?, only thing is whether can dispel the excess co2 fast enough. I think best is to put the fish in another tank or pail of fresh water first. I wonder if fish can get permanent brain damage.

Happened to me once and after that, like what Choy said, get a timer.

My SAE did not recover but rest assured, you are doing the right thing to put in air pump and to turn on lights. At least that was what I did.
Most of my fishes survived but shrimps has some casualties.

Heed Choy's advice. Get a timer (not very expensive compared to all the Live stock replenishment you have to make.

I think he probably has timer already, otherwise defeat purpose of a solenoid set, right? Probably he played around with the plugs and controls after lights out, and forgot to reconnect the solenoid back to the timer; did you?

    Glad to hear that.

I had the similar situation two days back, CO2 poisoning. Luckily i went home in time to save all my fishes and most importantly, all my baby cherry shrimps.

I will be more careful so that it won't happen again.

Is it a TheBen timer? If so, get another timer and split the load. Hope you haven't thrown away the "spoilt" ones.

Why use punctuation? See what a difference it makes:

Talking of timer, I also have problem with it. My timer keeps switching on and off at very fast interval ( 3 ~ 5 times per second) and sometime keep switching on or off despite the setting. I was so scare that my electronic solenoid will spoilt that now I manually switch it on and off.

    Has anyone encountered this before?

Sounds like a bad contact inside the timer. Get a new one.

    Speaking of timers,

There is this shop at Bras Basah Complex (can't remember the name though), near the POSB atm machine on the ground floor. Bought a timer there for only $6.50 if anyone interested.......
