Commonly used are sudo sand or river sand (aka Lapis sand)
Hi all!
Based on this article http://www.articlesbase.com/pets-art...m-3287134.html there are different types of sand for freshwater aquariums.
Need some advice on what is available in our LFS. I would love to have bottom feeders in my tank and whether coral sand could be used in this instance? Read elsewhere that the size of the grains do matter so as not to injure the livestock.
Any advice/comments are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Thanks! Any other ideas/comments would be great. Planning a tank with sand as my foreground substrate.
Play sand is good for aquariums. Go google it, many people use it.

Thanks hardric. Which LFS sells them?
From what I know, LFS don't sell play sand. They only sell sudo sand or river sand. I personally use sudo sand.
If you just want sand, its probably easier to just go get sudo sand or river sand cause Im not sure where to buy play sand in Singapore.
Most of the people who use play sand seem to be from Americans or Europeans. Maybe stores selling play sand are more common than LFS?

I'm using dennerle black quartz sand which is supposed to be suitable for bottom feeders since they are rounded and does not injure the bottom feeders especially cory cats which like to rummage through the sand. Quite costly though i feel... It's also pretty clean and no noticeable cloudiness of the water when I rinse it when new.
Thanks for the information guys! Anyway Cyberkinetic, yes! Dennerle is expensive!
