eh Zack, thread title say soiless. So... does it mean using alternative substrate (similar to river sand in your pics) or soiless = bare bottom??
I'm back & keeping 'em fingers wet,
Ronnie Lee
soiless indeed, because i used sand. heeheehee
Zack
Nice job! I'm glad you are posting updates to your soiless setup. I've always been against the notion that we are constrained to using "shrimp soil" to achieve viable results. All part of the marketing gimmick and pressure from various, more influential people who refuse to deviate from the norm and applaud only when another sticks to their methodology. Shows that good water management techniques can negate the need for active soils.
Props to you. For sticking with your project and having success with PRLs in your tank.
Setup: ADA Cube Garden 45-P, Starlitz Clear 45, Eheim Aquacompact 40
Layout/Hardscape: ADA Amazonia Powder Soil, Borneowild Rutsuuddo Wood (SS Root Type)
Fauna: Apisto Trifasciata, Sundadanio Axelrodi (Blue), Yamato Shrimp
Thank you for the support.
Initially i had a bad time in keeping the juv shrimps from dying as well. After that i managed to adjust the ph accordingly and now i am able to keep this tank stable without any equipments to measure water parameters and quality. I have sold my ph meter and tds meter! hahaha
Zack
Hi, bro, so you not using any soil to lower the ph? Whats your ph and how you lower your ph?
i have no idea whats my ph at the moment, as i tend to observe the shrimp's behaviour. And i dont have a device to measure my ph now.
If the shrimps tend to not moving much or 1 died out of no reason, then i know that maybe i should reduce the ph by abit using either distilled water or other forms.
PH by now should be the only thing that i have in concern as other factors suchs as gh, tds, should be stable as i'm only topping up using distilled water and rarely change a bit of water
Zack
ahah bro , why sell off your equipments..? and yes i agree that gh is more important... i didn't check my gh for sometime then realised one shrimp died for no reason too..after checking my gh shot up to 7(have no idea why though)..

Bro , you claim that you do not do WC and top up only distilled water, does that mean when the water evaporate in a week time then you do the top up?
Interesting setup since most of us religiously follow shrimp soil setup to maintain ph. Taking risk on our little shrimp lives had never crossed my mind. Any single death a day will simply disrupt the happy momentum on that day, pondering what's wrong with my tank. Did i do something different?

But what was your ph, tds and gh the last time u measured?
Last measure was around 3 months back @ gh 3, tds 130, ph 6.6 i think. hahaha
Leefker: the difference between mine from yours is that i will never worry about sudden increase in ph or gh due to the expiry of soil.![]()
Zack
the water parameters look fine. thanks for sharing Zack! hope your tank will be flooded with hkt prl!
swee, bro sadly hkt I got from you previously all up lorry already.
