Any Experience with Bolbitis heudelotii

Hi,

I was surfing thru the net and came across this plant. Womder if any one have any experience with it? Care to share?

Thinking of using it as a background plant for my 2 ft tank. Wonder if it will be too big...

The fern should be tied to wood or a backdrop. Do not root the fern in gravel. This is also one plant which does poorly when lighting is too high (2.5 wpg or more turns the fronds black). Also does badly in tanks with poor water circulation and warm water. It does best in water that is below 28C and is placed right in a current (e.g. with the filter outlet blowing at it). CO2 isn't vital, but accelerates growth. It's NOT a cheap plant, so unless you are prepared to give it what it needs, don't waste your money.

A few LFS in the Lavendar/Boon Keng area have this plant for sale.

This plant does well in temperature around 20-28 degree C. Light requirement is not very demanding the speed of growth is slow. PH should stay below 7.

If you cover the rhizome it will rot

My does well in PH around 6.6 with added CO2 and hardness is below medium.

Can order from oriental and some shop do carry it.

shortman: wonder if it is possible to snap a photo of how your plant looks like in the tank. so far all the pics that i see have the plant alone. will like to see the effect of the plant in reference to the rest.

budak: looks like can't really grow the plant in my tank. Light is about 3w/g.

Wonder if there is any nice unique plants to replace them? Thinking of putting them behind a lawn of blyxa japonica.

Hmm...

You should be able to reference the plant in the simei MRT LHS they have many of them in the very big tank. It is located on the left corner of the tank.

It took around 2 weeks to settle down. Was wander what is your aquarium parameters?

My tank temperature is around 26-28 degree C, PH is set to 6.6, 1 x 36w PL light on for 10 hrs a day and 24x7 CO2.
Never know the GH/KH/NO3/NO2/NH4 as never test it for 2yrs.

Have lot of algae in the tank and stop dosing PPMD for 2-3 weeks.
Water change 10-20% evryweek and notice my tape water PH raise from around 6 to 7.5.

Last night test the tape water with PH meter still getting the same 7.5.

Where you get your plant?
How long have you plant it in the aquarium?

scan, I am not saying that if you have more than 2 wpg, you can't grow the plant. However, under high lighting conditions, you need to make sure that the plant gets sufficient CO2 and fertilisation. I believe a deficiency of one growth factor will cause the plant to "burn" out.

not got the plant yet.. thinking of doing a more thorough research b4 jumping in.

Tank parameter are as follow:
temp - 26-28
ph - 6.6
kh - 5
lighting - 72W for nine hours.

guess i will go down to the lfs and see how it turns out to me in the aquarium.
