Hi, can anyone share their experience on the growth rate of yamato shrimps?
When I bought mine a few weeks ago, they are quite small(just a little bigger than my malayan), which was the reason why I bought them. Smaller than the ones which I see at the usual lfs which seemed to be around 4 cm.. Literally bigger than my tetras and platys..
But yesterday while I was tank gazing.. I suddenly realize my yamato seemed to have grown by quite a bit.. They are now more than an inch easily (i've five in the tank and saw 3) and when they landed beside my malayan, they now looked like giants!
Either they've grown very fast or my malayan shrimps had shrunk...

They do grow rather quickly, although it's been quite some time since I bought Yamatos. I prefer normal shrimp nowadays, as they do the same job imho, and they're so much cheaper and remain smaller size. There's a tank of them in NA right now, I just bought 10 a few days ago.

Normal shrimps as in malayan?? Actually the big size of yamato shrimps is a reason why I hesitated getting them initially... Got these because they are much smaller and I didn't expect they to grow so fast!
Anyway stuck with them now.. :S

I think so. As long as they do some "eating" in my tank I'm fine with them.

Yeap Yamatos are big and expensive. So I decided one day to just stick with normal shrimps. At least they don't grow so big that they freak me out by climbing onto my arm when I'm cleaning my tank.

    Yikes! Climbing on your arm?!?
I try not to pollute my tank by sticking my hands inside..bought extra long tongs to do all the work..luckily mine's a small tank... Haha...
