My tank got alot of baby snails, so bought 2 mini puffers however both died within a day, attacked by other bigger fishes i guess.
was wondering if I was to geta normal puffer to eat the snails, will it eat the shrimps inside the tank too?
What other fishes do you have in the tank? Apistos?
Puffers are hardly little fellows, I unintentionally starved one for close to a month, thought he was dead, and I still found him alive. They can swim pretty fast too, and tend to hide amongst plants. Maybe it was an acclimatization problem?
My puffer doesn't eat shrimp, but my shrimp are about the same size as my puffer.
I have 6 rainbow fishes, 6 big densonii, ghost shrimps & some little tetras. Scared puffer will attack my fishes/shrimps instead
My puffer leaves my Ember tetras alone. I think he will leave your fishes alone too. Shrimps-wise I can't say. That's why I never ventured into shrimp keeping
I have seen my puffer attacking my shrimp (and yes..he ate them!)
But mine that time was a small tank... So do it at your own risk!

confirm puffer will attack shrimps but its ok for population control

they will go crazy for snails 1st all the time for my case.
i added some live ghost shrimps in the tank to let my puffers maintain their "hunting" instinct.
i only saw them chasing the shrimps but not eat them everytime i'm watching (maybe they know i will be feeding them soon?).
But the shrimps do get fewer and fewer every other day after im back from work haha
But snails....they go crazy for snails.
Guess I'll just get only 1 puffer instead of a pair. Hahaha

Not advisable to keep mini puffers with bigger fish, esp aggressive ones.
I have a tank of mini puffers and they are doing well with plecos.
