How's he now?
Definitely something to do with the superworms. Is he still eating?
Aerate the tank too.
I noticed that my Bichir was bloating up and I thought he was just getting fat because he has a huge appetite. He eats four superworms a day.
But when I got home earlier I noticed there are red areas under his belly and on his side and his eyes are cloudy. The scales on his sides seem a bit raised. I suspect it may be dropsy. Lfs sold me Azoo Anti-Endoparasite medecine. I have him in QT and he is at half dose for now. I read that a broad spectrum antibiotic should be used like tetracycline. Should I add that along with the Azoo meds, or is that enough?
The ingredients are: metronidazole, mebendazole, levamisol, vit. b complex
Here are a few pics. Please help me. Im still hoping hes just obese, but you can never be too careful.
He was in with an Arowana, Indo Tiger and two Multipunctatus Catfish who do not exhibit any signs. My water is kept as clean as possible. The pH is 7.8, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0 and Nitrate 20 before a water change. I did a water change in the main tank afterwards and filled the QT with half old water.
I dont know what else to do.
Reality is an illusion, caused by alcohol deficiency.

Ive narrowed it down to either dropsy, african bloat or he may have swallowed a pebble. Hes in a QT with 0.1% epsom salt, Azoo anti endoparasite meds and 500 mgs of chloramphenicol. Aeration id increased and Im doing WCs every 2 days.
He is still bloated and a bit red in some areas, but he isnt gasping so much anymore. Im leaning towards the pebble because he hasnt passed anything in two days. He still moves around and surfaces for air once in awhile, but his markings have faded.
Ive decided not to feed for a few days to ease the bloat.
He is definitely sick, I just dont know how. All I can do is wait.
Does bringing it to a vet help?
