Yup, geoffrey is right on about how both internal & external reactors work. The problem I found with folks using those "green" internal reactors including myself is that they use too low a flow rate to drive it. Do note that as long as the bubbles don't get blown off from the bottom of the reactor, you are fine. More turbulence will equal to more mixing and better dissolve rate/response time. You can also further improve the efficiency of the reactor by means of using a separate powerhead and feed the bubbles into the suction side. The bubbles get atomized and will dissolve much faster than the conventional way of using the CO2 inlet at the reactor side.

    Guys

Currently for my 4 ft tank, I am using a small internal reactor..(ie. about 10cm in length). Is it sufficient for my tank?? Is this causing the co2 mixing problem in my tank?

Is it the one with no balls? For a 4ft tank and assuming you have a correct filter for your tank size, the flowrate of your filter might be too high for such a reactor. Me 2ft use the 5-ball type also feel not enough lol! I rather control CO2 through bps than have a weak reactor.
    I'm back!
