Breeding shrimps

Hello...

Just a lazy Sunday afternoon thought that came to my mind suddenly...

I am wondering how do you experienced breeders raise your shrimplets?

After they are out from their mothers, do you transfer them to another tank? or do you keep them in the main tank till they grow up?

I am just wondering how do you actually differentiate the bred-in-the-tank shrimps and those you bought off shelf when they are similar in size.

if you have a few of them, you can still differentiate. not like when you have a few hundreds on them.
for me, i prefer to leave them inside the tank, it's tedious to separate them. if you have many other tanks, you could separate them. the shrimplets will grow faster if separated from the adults due to more food avaliable for them in the tank and they venture out more i guess.

Its more ideal if the other tank you are transferring to share the same water parameters. If not just make sure your current tank have
more hiding places or plants to let them take shelter.

For myself, I'll transfer the mother to a Nescafé glass jar sharing the same water as in main tank & leave the jar inside the tank. & remove the mother after giving birth, this way the water parameters & temperature remains the same. Mine is a 2ft tank.

How do you float the jar? If submerge won't the shrimp mama swim out?

How is the water circulated in the Nescafe jar? Unless there is flow, oxygen deprivation will kill the shrimplets.

Also do the female shrimps eat the shrimplets? Why is there a need to keep them separate?

I see no need to separate the shrimplets unless one is doing selective breeding.
A jar or tub in a tank will soon no longer share the same parameters because of waste buildup and oxygen depletion and is not healthy.

Use a breeder box better either use those external hang on one of those internal one. But internal you will face one issue the shrimplet will eventually find their way back into the tank.

I would 2nd that, but mine weird.

Have shrimplet finding it's way into them and stay a while. So only useful to keep the adults in.

i just leave them in there...and make sure they are fed sufficiently (with food spread out equally)... unless you got a partition / another tank with the same water parameter , it is not advisable to just remove them ...
and one thing about shrimps is that you don't have to worry about their parents eating them..

Yupz same, they go in and out so only good is to keep adult but it does not serve the purpose of what TS wanted. To identify his f1 or other f generation. Best is move the mama to another tank with almost same parameter. Or during setup can set a small partition in. So when have berried mama shift them over the partition. After release shift back at least the partition is sharing the same tank parameter.
