where can i get the rapid disconnect coupling valve for Eheim

Hi All,

My first post here. I am a newbie who just started an aquarium and had bought a Eheim 2213 cannister filter. After I set it up, I realised that it does not come with the rapid disconnect coupling valves for me to disconnect the inlet and outlet hoses should I need to remove the filter to clean it.

May I know where can I get such valves ? It need not be Eheim, as long as it can fit the 12/16 hose..

The place you bought will carry that item.

Ehiem double taps.
Else most of the major lfs like c328, polyart, y618, aquastar, seaview an nature aquarium do sell them.

Thanks for the reply. I checked with C328 and it seems that they quote me around $25 for one set of valve. With both inlet and outlet, it means the 2 valves will cost me $50+, damn expensive given that I bought the whole 2213 for $114. Any idea if there are cheaper types available ?

Hi,

You can check with y618, seen compatible ones there.
You can work with just on/off tap 1 set.
We don't clean canister every week in the 1st place.

The on off taps will save you from priming, if their positioned nearer to canister.

Btw, buy a container to put the 2213 if your not using 2 sets double tap. Less cleaning up for the floor.

Try hardware stores... not those fancy DIY shops that you find in shopping malls, but true blue hardware shops usually in HDB estates. Also check gardening shops and nurseries.

There's one in Serangoon HDB in one of the blocks along Serangoon Central (road) that sells PVC pipes, connectors, hoses, etc. You can try there if near you. I can't recall exactly where, but I remember the shop is at the end of one of the blocks that are perpendicular to Serangoon Central.

Frankly, the Eheim ones are well constructed and lasting. I would consider the original ones a long term investment for the hobby. The only concern is that if you upsize your filter, you may need to upsize the hoses as well.

thanks felix and vinz for the suggestions. I appreciate that. I happen to live in Serangoon area. If i am not wrong, the h/w shop in Serangoon central that i am aware of is no longer there. closed down quite some time ago.

Like what Felix says, we maintain the filter only once a while. so i feel there is no need to buy an expensive Eheim valve. just any durable common valves will do since we will only touch them a couple of times a year..

Now that i got the filter settled, the next thing is to setup some low tech (without CO2) aquascaping with guppies and cardinal tetras.. my tank now only has feeder goldfish i bought 2 months back... they are hardy..

Try Teck Siong Huat at kitchener road if you do not mind those industrial type. The store practically sell all kinds of valves, quick connections, tubing, connectors and tubing of all kinds of size from liquid usage to gases usage.

Try to google for the location first before u go down look for them. They got 2 stores, the main one at ubi and the other one at Kitchener road. The uncle at Kitchener road very funny one, he address everyone as 'Johnny' that goes in the shop.

I went to some h/w shops yesterday and today that sell garden hose and stuff. they do not have coupling valves. However, you can mix and match various parts to form what I need and end up the cost is only slightly lower than Eheim. I think I will just go and get Eheim, since 1) cost diff is not much, 2) it does not look nice, 3) with more parts, the chances of failure is higher 4) not worth the effort and time to look for alternatives, just pay and forget.

In terms of more trusted brand, reliable and more lasting with better constructed, I will rather go for Eheim in the long run if the price is not a huge margin difference.
