Hi to all, been in this forum for a couple of months but haven't posted anything useful before.

    Here's the initial tank specifications:

    Curve front glass tank: 23 x 20 x 25 = 11.5l / 3 gal
    Filtration: Dophin H80
Substrate: Gex Shrimp & Plant Soil

Haven't planned what flora & fauna will be used, but I'm thinking more of low-tech shrimp tank. Will post a pic of the tank after the hard scape has been set up!

    Set-up

Okay here's some pictures of the setting up process

    Filling up with soil

    My hard scape

    And finally, the planned layout

Any comments will be welcomed! I will be filling up the little holes between the rocks (not in the rocks) with soil, so I'll post an update soon.
Anyways does anyone have any idea what kind of rocks are these and will it affect any water parameters?

    Final Scape

Here's the final scape, with the little holes between the rocks filled with soil.

Does not seem to turn out much the same as the initial scape though, any comments anyone?

any plans for plants? will be good if you have something in mind.
i suggest you set it aside for some time, take pictures of each scape as you adjust them bit by bit.
maybe after a week or so, sit down and look at all the pictures, compare see which of what you like, and do a rescape.

Mini table tank - 3 gallons

Thank you fireblade for your compliment. Yep now sit back relax let it cycle. Just worried bout those rocks though, can't seem to find much research regarding rocks and water parameters.

Nice looking tank. But im not sure if the led light is strong enough for the glosso to carpet, and the glosso should have been planted deeper.

Let us know how it works!

Looks nice. I agree, i think glosso requires quite a high intensity of light..

Mini table tank - 3 gallons

What is the dimension of your tank, as well as your wattage for your led? Are you using the normal off the shelve 10000K temp LEDs?

Re: Mini table tank - 3 gallons

Hi guys, just a quick update, been in camp and tomorrow gotta go back in again. Took your advice gid in planting my glosso deeper, here it is

Quite a slipshot picture, my apologies, will try to get a better one over the weekends. Trimmed the plant in the background, it grew really fast, and curved towards the light source. Might have to consider changing the background plant if it continues to do so.

I'll update as to whether the glossos do carpet, hope they do though.

Anyhow, qngwn my dimension of tank can be found in my first post,
    Curve front glass tank: 23 x 20 x 25 = 11.5l / 3 gal
And as for the lights, it is an AquaZonic, 4 watts 10,000k light.

    Cheers

    Updates

    Hi again,

Tank toxic parameters are stable for quite a couple of days already, Ammonia and Nitrite at 0 ppm. Introduced 2 small puffers into the tank to clear snails that hitched on the plants into the tank. Some picture updates of the tank:

Trimmed stem plants previously, now growing new nodes (not sure if correct term, correct me if I am wrong)

Close up of Glosso, not sure if they are doing fine though

    Close up of puffer

Will probably be letting the tank continue cycle bout a month or so, then I will be adding in some low grades CRS and CBS as the fauna. Hope that all goes well, comments are welcomed

    Cheers

Hope you will be removing the puffers before the shrimps are placed in. Or else your puffers will love you due to the ebi shasimi you gave them.

Wow the glosso looks like it is carpeting. is it really carpeting or is it just the way you planted it? I am really excited to find out if glosso can indeed carpet with these commercial LEDs! If it does, I will change my T5s to some sleek looking LEDs.

My glosso is carpeting well in my one-footer nano, but I have 3.8 WPG there. (Anyway, the WPG rule does not apply to small tanks since the equation will 'deflat' for smaller tanks. i.e. smaller tanks need higher WPG)

No worries man, I will surely take them out before putting any shrimps in, don't wanna see them eating up anything other than snails. Been starving them, hoping they will clear up all my snails soon! So far they seem to be doing their job pretty well.

Sadly, the glosso in this tank is not carpeting yet, or at least I think it is not. It looks just exactly the same way i planted initially.

I had some quite a bit of extra glosso leftover, so I took one stalk to place it in my 2 feet tank. The glosso is spreading slowly, already on its third runner. This tank is running on DIY LED though, total of 35 Watts for a 19 gallon tank, which makes <2 WPG. I will try to get some photos up to show you.

    Updates

    Hi guys

The following pictures were taken yesterday.

gid, here is a picture of a glosso starting to carpet in my 2 feet tank, hope it is clear enough. It started off with only one small stalk, what you can see in the left side of the picture.

Had some algae boom issues, result of keeping your lights on for too long :X

And instant counter action was to put a nice looking red ramshorn snail to clean it up

Can see the snail trails behind, it seems like its pattern in eating is left right left right, a zig zag manner.

So today I was at NA, I saw some low grade CRS and CBS that looked nice, so I bought a bag of CBS on impulse. Did a major water change, roughly 80-90% of the water, to remove nitrates mainly. After that did a measurement on ammonia and nitrite, all were zero. Went on to take out the two hardworking puffer fishes, and started using drip acclimatisation for about an hour or so. The shrimps seemed fine, did not hang around the top, nor jump out of the water after placing them in. Then I went out, and came home to find 8 out of 9 dead, last one probably dead somewhere inside the jungle. I have never kept CRS or CBS before so yeah.

Anyways, here are my water parameters just taken, hope someone can point out what went wrong

    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: 0
    Nitrate: No test kit

    PH: 6.6
    GH: 4-5
    KH: Did not test

    TDS: 243
    Temp 29.4C

I know many would say my TDS is too high, temperature is too high, but I read about people having their TDS higher than what I have and still no problems with their tanks. As for temperature, as they were low grades, I assumed that they did not require chilled temperatures. Please enlighten me if I am wrong. Thank you.

    Cheers

nice setup, think temp is abit high , for glosso temp below 27c is best .
ur glass too much algae , but luckily u have the cleaner

Collect bucephalandra and crypt is part of my life. Now i have more than 30 species of Bucephalandra . hope can collect more more. make me fall in love is Bucephalandra Molteyana Deep Purple

Re: Mini table tank - 3 gallons

What types of rock are those?

Best not to have shrimps in rock set ups.

A temperature of 29 degrees couple with a non agitation surface-lower oxygen content in the tank is also another cause for the dead shrimps.

Its always good to read around in the invertebrate section before attempting on these beautiful creatures.
