One of my 40 odd cardinals in my 3ft tank died last sun and one more yesterday. the first one had problems swimming and kept on going to the surface. the second one was covered with some kind of furry mould when it died yesterday. the rest look fine but

what could be happening?! started changing water daily at 10% because i tot it was a water problem - my tank water is permanently greenish. none of my other fish - pencilfish, otos have any problems. please help..

    yoz buddy,

hmmmm, did u just added these cardinal?

or they r quarantine for some time liao?

cos if they r nw fish with no quarantine, chances of dyin is high, i usually lose up to 5-10% of my new fish.

fishes swimming up and gaspin for air could be due to lack of oxygen, but if onli one is like tt, then it could be diseases.

as for the mould, it could be fungus or parasite dependin on whether it appears after or b4 the fish died.

maybe u can give us more info to help u like pH etc.

Did you acclimatised the fishes first before adding them in?

i put the bag in the tank to equalize the temperature. also added some tank water in the plastic bag. after that then added in the fish.

the place where i bought the cardinals had some dead fish in the tank. maybe i shouldnt have bought from them...

It is safer to fully acclimatise the fish first.

This is how I do it.
    Put bag in tank.
Slowly add water in over an hour.
I add a little every fifteen minutes.
After 1 hour of this, i just add the fish into the tank.

so far so good. 0 casualty
